  • How often do YOU weigh in?

I am a recovering scale-aholic... I would step on the scale 5 times a day! I don't know what I thought would change, and I know it's a bad idea, but I just couldn't stop myself!
Then, last week, I rebooted with induction - with renewed ambition. And, I have disciplined myself with the scale - haven't stepped on in five days! Feels like forever!
Now, I'm afraid to step back on. I am very afraid that if there's no real difference, then I'll be hugely disappointed and frustrated. Of course, on the other hand - if I have had a good loss, it'll do wonders for my continued ambition.
So - what would you do? To weigh or not to weigh? How often do you weigh in, and why?
Must lose the baby weight - I know I'm buried under here somewhere!
    43 down, 39 to go!

I weigh daily these days. I've learned not to be disappointed by normal weight fluctuations.

I also take body measurements every few weeks.

I am the same as Georgiana. DAILY-----But...................

For a while I only weighed weekly. For about a month or so now, I am weighing daily, but only taking my Monday weigh in as official.

I weigh daily---fully knowing and expecting that the scale will go up and down, possibly several pounds, and I will not allow myself to be upset, disappointed, or depressed if I see the scale go up a few pounds between Mondays.

I will probably go back to strictly weekly for a while after I hit a certain goal.

Re: How often do YOU weigh in?

I haven't had any set schedule for weighing but I have not weighed daily. Usually it is about every 4 days. I do think that now I am in pre-maintenance, I might need to weigh in more often so I can stay on top of my weight.

I have been weighing in the way I have just because I don't like seeing the numbers fluctuate. I know I need to learn to accept that part of things though. At the same time, as long as I am staying on plan, I don't think I need to weigh daily. With adding more carbs in during pre-maintenance, I kind of like seeing how that effects me after a day or two.

I know I'm probably different from most, but I probably only weight about 3 or 4 times a year. I began this journey in January of 04. I weighed when I began on January 2, 2004. Did not weight again until March. Lost 40 lbs in 04 and have kept it off all this time. I have gone up probably as much as 10 lbs upon occasion and still never weigh. I just go by how my pants fit. I am not sure of my weight as of the moment but I'm close to my low weight.

JEC - I have no idea how you manage that! I wish I could! I would love to see giant (positive) changes every time I stepped on the scale. I guess I just need the reassurance that I'm doing things right.
Of course, my husband the personal trainer would just as soon see me throw away the scale and devote myself to the measuring tape alone.

I weigh in daily. Moving up the rungs, I find it helps to know what certain foods do to my body.

                  AMY,

That sounds like I wise thing to do, when you are monitoring your changes when moving up on OWL. (Just to keep things in check)

I actually feel sad when I hear about some people saying they are weighing 3-4X a day, and they are stressing about the changes in weight over the day. That is an addiction just as sad as sugar or carbs.

Those are the dear friends that we need to go to their homes
and do an "INTERVENTION"! LOL I just want to go and give them a hug and try to help them de-stress about the scale.

if you allow the numbers on the sclae to dictate your value of the hard work you are doing morphing your body to the healthier smaller you then stay off them and use your tapemeasure to show you how well you are shedding body fat.

the number is just the effect of gravity on your body's total mass so I enjoyed seeing what changes stuff like peeing and pooping did tot he total mass along with workihng out so I was on my sclaes all day long.

I am a true scale addict. Sometimes 4 times a day. I don't worry about the fluctuations, but it helps me stay motivated and focused on the task at hand. I always weigh in the morning. Then I weigh when I get to and leave the gym. I also usually weigh bedtime as well. Why bedtime? I don't know. It's a good sleep when the scale looks smaller before bed I guess.

I agree the scale is a very good measure of your progress, but weighing anymore than once a day is a problem. You basically fluctuate in weight due to fluids, and fats don't get lost at a rate of more than 1-2 lbs/weekly. I used to weigh myself before and after workouts because I liked to see the low number after I perspired and respired, but honestly it made me obsessive to the point I wanted to exercise excessively and not eat or drink before i got on the scale. In retrospect I was borderline eating-disordered. DO NOT LET THE SCALE GET TO YOU .<3

I weigh daily but my official weigh in is on Monday morning. I like to keep up on my weight so I know if anything needs tweaked. Like when I introduced 2 hot dogs the next day I was swollen and up 2lbs from the sodium. Now I know hot dogs are out for the time being. If I hadn't of weighed and continued to eat them through out the week, no telling how much of problem they would have added up to.

I'm totally addicted to my scale and no one can rip me apart from it. It's sad, I know. Buuut I try not to take all of my daily weights as my real weight because I know it fluctuates.
