  • Tried Atkins about five years ago...

I managed to stick to the diet for about four months and lost a solid 30lbs before falling off the weight loss wagon and ultimately gaining all of the weight back. I've decided it's time to give it another go, hopefully with more success this time around and the will-power to stick with it for more than just a few months.

Anyhow, I recall reading during my original Atkins experience that the diet never quite works as effieciently as the first time you participate. Did I misread or should I expect different, less productive results this time around? I understand that everyone is different but I don't want to set myself up for disappointment when I don't drop 10 pounds during Induction, as I did the first time.

Thanks for reading--it's good to be back!

    Welcome to ADBB!

Yes, you should expect different results ... you have a different body now.

Best to focus on the now ... rather than thinking about the past.

      Welcome back.

Yes, expect different results because your body is different now. You may lose faster, or slower. Too many factors to predict. Just follow the rules and enjoy the ride!
And don't forget this is a lifestyle, not a fad diet to drop 10# fast.

The older we get, the slower our bodies get. It stinks, but it's the reality of the situation. That being said, if you're in this for life (ideally) or at least for an extended length of time and you truly follow the rules you will definitely see the results. You have to have patience when it comes to weight loss.
The first time I did Atkins correctly I lost twelve lbs, the next time I lost about ten...I think. But I was at a lower weight. And you have to remember that during that two week induction period you should be exercising which can make you retain water. It's all very tricky and you shouldn't assume atkins won't work for you based on the induction period. Sometimes the woosh fairy visits you and believe me, it's well worth the wait and dedication
Also, your weight loss during those two weeks also depends on how much weight you need to lose overall. It's about 5-10 % of the total weight loss you need to have. How much weight are you looking to lose?
