  • V8 Juice

*Newbie* here, so if this is in the wrong spot I apologize.

Just started atkins 2 weeks ago, and lost 8 pounds.

Im curious though. Im drinking a can of v8 juice a day, and just googled that, and it may be that Im not supposed to be drinking it.

Aren't Net Carbs like this :

    Total Carbs
    less Dietary Fiber
    less Sugars

    equal Net Carbs ?

Isnt Net Carbs my goal. I read because V8 isnt good because it has Beets. But if it meets the net carbs goal, why shouldnt I drink it ?

I did think weight loss would go faster, but 4 pounds a week is still good and healthy. Would it go faster without my V8 ?

    Thanks for any advice.

    Hi
Read all of the ingredients, and if any of them not on the Induction Acceptable food list, then it is not allowed.

    And it is:
Total Carbs less Dietary Fiber = net carbs

    You do not subtract "Sugar".

    I have a can here---Serving Size = 1 can 11.5 oz
    Carbs---14 g
    Fiber---3 grams

    that is 11 grams.

Also Sugar 11 grams, contains beets, carrots,

So thats a definite mybad on my part.

Thanks for the clearing up the sugars part too. I shall certainly be more mindful and hopefully take off 5 pounds a week!

You are probably thinking of "Sugar Alcohol" found in bars and stuff. I do not eat those, so I can not comment.

          Re: V8 Juice

V8 is high in sodium if I'm not mistaken. I stay away from it.
Plus, it's processed. The way I think about it is, you can't really eat processed foods on this WOE because you don't know exactly what's going into your food or exactly what you're consuming.

            Re: V8 Juice

Another issue with the juiced vegetables is that once you remove the fiber the impact on bloodsugar increases - And we try to avoid impact on our bloodsugar.

There are very specific rules on induction on how the 20 net carbs should be used. We cannot eat or drink whatever we want for those 20 carbs.

              Re: V8 Juice

In addition to what many of the above posters pointed out, V8 and tomato juice are just too carby for early phases in Atkins. In fact, in the new book, V8 and tom juice are OWL Rung 7 items. And yes, I know we follow DANDR on ADBB but I'm just sayin'...
