  • Scales Lie!!!

I moved up a rung last week and gained a pound, although I lost another belt loop. This time I didn't get bummed out, I just figured I'd give it a few more days to see how it goes. The scale I normally use isn't in my home, so I've only weigh myself about once a week.

Then yesterday I went to my doctor because my jaw has been bothering me and my bite is out of alignment after falling asleep on the sofa. The first thing he asked me is if I was drunk when it happened. Nope, I assured him since I haven't had any booze since New Years Eve. I add that I have also cut out caffiene, sugar and processed food. He then looks at my chart, congratulates me and says I've lost 30 Lbs since I was last in his office before Christmas.

Here's the kicker ~ He had me at 332 in early December. I remember seeing that and thought no way when I took it. Especially after I "bulked up" during the holidays and weighed in at 328 on New Years day (but on a different scale). Yesterday in his office I was at 302 after lunch with shoes on. Saturday morning in shorts, socks and a T-shirt I was at 306 (on my official weight loss scale). What a yo-yo ride. Who to believe?

Thank goodness I'm not scale crazy. I feel good, clothes are fitting better, friends are commenting on how well I look, so I'll just keep on doing what seems to be working.

But oh how I want to get under 300.

    Thanks for reading.

    Rant over!

          Re: Scales Lie!!!

I had 2 doctor's appts on one day, after working at school in the morning.
At School, on the regular sliding clunking balance scale, I weighed 206. 30 minutes later at the endocrinologist's, I apparantly had gained 10 pounds in traffic---I weighed 216! At the regular doctor's I weighed 209.
My scale at home says whatever I want it to say. I depends on where and how I stand on it.
If I shift my weight to my heels, I lose about 8 pounds. If I stand with my weight more towards the balls of my feet, I gain 5. If I stand still, it's about 206. So that's what I'm going with.
I hate scales. I need a new ine, but I hate to spend money on something that I hate, so I buy cheap ones, and then I hate them even more.

Rock on! Sounds like you're super close to a major milestone no matter which scale you use. Don't let the numbers bug you. As my husband the fitness trainer says: "It's the tale of the tape, not the tale of the scale" ;-)

Dude, I am so close to 299 myself which is my next mini goal and while I can almost TASTE the victory, that daggon scale WILL NOT bulge. I have about 6 more pounds to go....

Congrats on almost being at mini goal!! I know that you too can taste victory.

                            Re: Scales Lie!!!

Update: I stepped on the official scale today and I am down 3 Lbs from my weigh in ten days ago, or 4 Lbs if you count the pound I gained when I weighed in five days ago.

Just for laughs, I stepped onto another scale that someone had brought in and it showed me two pounds lighter. Go figure.

I think the message here is clear. Scales can't be trusted. Our weight fluxuates. We need to get healthy and Dr Atkins' has the solution.

                            Best of luck to all.

Maybe if you try a few more scales one will drop that 2 pounds...LOL.

I think I need a new scale too. I keep on just missing my first mini-goal.
