  • how am I doing?

just needing some encouragement today I guess.... so anyway..

I have been losing about 3.5 pounds a month and I have about 40 pounds more to go. Is that good?
I have been doing this woe since the middle of Sept 2009 and have lost 38 pounds so far. 38 pounds in 5 months is ok I guess but patience is not a virtue of mine. I was hoping to be at my goal weight in time for my annual trip to Nashville in May. I realize I will not lose 40 pounds by then. I am in OWL rung 1 so I guess I could reduce my carbs some.
Will fatburners speed things up or are they a bad idea on this woe?
I have also purchased Jillian Michaels DVD "30 minute shred".
Has anyone tried it? Seen any results?
    Thanks

    Re: how am I doing?

I don't think Atkins is something you can rush along. Cutting back on carbs is likely to backfire. I think you should keep on with OWL, its there for a reason. I continued to lose weight just fine as I went up in the rungs in OWL. There are weeks I don't lose at all, a few I have gained , and plenty where I have lost. Slow and steady wins the race so to speak.

It has taken me about 10 months to lose 50lbs. In the big scheme of things, I consider that a short amount of time. When I think of where I was a year ago...I can't believe the progress I have made since then. So, enjoy your progress that you have made. You are doing great! You have so much to be proud of.

I have no idea what fatburners are. I just believe in going by the book and staying true to that.

I have not seen the shred program but know there are people here that use it and it sounds good!

    Good luck!

Does what I think make any difference?

Are you happy with what you've lost? Do you notice the benefits of this way of eating, other than weight loss?

I am in OWL rung 1 so I guess I could reduce my carbs some.
Is this what Dr. Atkins wrote we should do? Cut down on carbs in OWL to lose more before a trip?

Besides, cutting down on carbs does not guarantee faster weight loss.

I would suggest you follow the plan the way Dr. Atkins wrote it and move forward instead of backward.

Will fatburners speed things up or are they a bad idea on this woe?
They are a bad idea on any WOE, imo.

Look at all the medical recalls on the fat burners and diet crap. Is that what you want to put in your body? Even Jillian Michael's is being sued over her new ones already. Doesn't sound like a chance I want to take with my body anymore (yes I've tried a few before but never for long because you feel horrible after they get in your system a while).

I would stick with owl. You have lost 38lbs already and I am sure you will lose some more by May. You said it is an annual trip so hopefully you will be at your goal weight May 2011.

                Re: how am I doing?

Thanks for all the replies. While I am happy with the weight I have lost so far, I just thought it would be faster somehow. Like I said I have little patience for things lol.
I thought Dr Atkins did say something about cutting back on carbs for a big event. Something about a pool party or something? I don't remember off the top of my head and my DANDR is at home. I probably misread it though.
As far as the fatburners go I will save my money for something better, like new clothes.

**Georgiana** you asked how I feel on this woe? I feel like crap lately actually. Not sure why. I felt so good the first month. But for the last few months I have been so tired and kind of depressed too. I am evev starting to lose some of my hair. I take a multivitamin everyday so I don't quite know what's up with all that. I'm sticking to this no matter if I go bald lol.

**whatsername" you said "slow and steady wins the race" that is so funny. That's what my mom said when I was talking to her about my frustrations with this woe. Congrats on your weight loss so far.

Could you post a typical menu, with quantities and net carbs for all foods?

How many calories are you consuming, on average? How many of them come from fat?

                    Re: how am I doing?

If you cut your carbs you're going to get tired of doing Atkins. Just keep going with it.
I actually stayed in induction forever and I wish I hadn't. I would have never fallen off the wagon.
Up your exercise. I have a Jillian Michaels workout, it's good. You work out muscles you didn't know existed. It's good.
Don't do fat burners. From everything I've read they can make you pretty sick and most do.
And don't lose hope. You're doing great. Plus, the woosh fairy may have not visited you, yet.

ONe more thing: I lost my hair, too. In part, losing a lot of weight can cause hairloss but I think in big part it was my fault for not going up the rungs and getting all the nutrients I could from the list of veggies. I was always counting carbs making sure I was under the twenty (I stayed in induction practically the entire time). And I always ate veggies that had virtually no carbs, which was bad. Reassess your menu and plan new meals with more nutrients. Remember, generally speaking, brighter veggies=more nutrients.

                      Re: how am I doing?

                      here is my menu:

                      breakfast: 3 scrambled eggs
                      3 slices of bacon
1/8 c. of shredded Colby jack cheese on top of eggs

                      approx: 5 carbs

lunch: taco salad ( no shell)
                      2 c. shredded iceburg lettuce
                      1/4 c. shredded cojack cheese
                      1 c. taco meat
                      1/2 c. taco sauce

                      approx. 8 carbs

                      dinner: usually a salad
                      2 c. romaine lettuce
                      1/4 c. shredded Italian cheeses
                      2 chopped hard boiled eggs
                      1/4 c. sunflower seeds
                      8 small slices of pepperoni
                      1 tbsp bacon bits
                      1/3 c. Italian dressing

                      approx. 15 net carbs

for a snack I may have a half cup of macadamia nuts or a few thin slices of turkey rolled in a slice of cojack cheese
The nuts are about 4 carbs and the turkey roll ups are 2 carbs each

                        >> I am in OWL rung 1>>

Nuts and seeds wouldn't be allowed on OWL 1.

What's the list of ingredients in the Italian salad dressing?

15 net carbs is hardly Induction eating ... it's really not enough for OWL Rung 1.

You should be getting around 25 net carbs, with 17-20 ish from Induction vegetables.

The pepperoni and the bacon bits are very processed ... I certainly wouldn't have the pepperoni on a daily basis ... there's lots of sugar and sodium there.

The only vegetable carbs you have are from the lettuce (not including the taco sauce) ... 2 cups of iceberg (chopped) is 1.99 net carbs and 2 cups of romaine, shredded is 1.09 net carbs.

You're getting nowhere near MOST of you net carbs from Induction vegetables.

I use Ortega brand taco seasoning. I wasn't aware there was a homemade taco seasoning recipe. Can you send it to me please?

I could also use some suggestions on how to get my veggies where they should be. Keep in mind I am a horrible cook.

I guess I need to update my profile because I guess I should move up the rungs til I am allowed nuts and seeds. I can't give them up they are too good. lol
