      Re: Help!

It's a winter squash, so no, it's not legal for Induction ... it's not an Induction vegetable.

          >> Im on rung 1, is that still bad?>>

As you know from reading DANDR, Rung 1 is just 5 net carbs more of Induction vegetables.

Winter squash would be for Rung 8.

PUmpkin is a type of winter squash.. and it's allowed on induction only if other veggies don't exceed 2 cups (1 cup = 12 g carb)

Kabocha is also classified as a winter squash.. but slightly higher carb.. (1 cup = 14 g carb)

so.. there you go.. problem solved ..

it's probably just too much carb (although I never really understood why pumpkin is listed .. it's got a pretty hefty carb count..

oh.. and each cup of either squash only has 2 grams fiber..

I think the bigger question is why you're still on rung 1 ... you should be at premaintenance, where this winter squash is legal.

I don't actually have canned pumpkin.. I was talking about fresh pumpkin... boiled, drained, and mashed.. 1/2 cup = 6.o g. carb.. 1.0 g fiber.. according to the book I use for fresh food..

                          Re: Help!

pumpkin isn't the spawn of the devil it has a lower GI then many of the winter squashes and has a lower carb count for a one cup serving so it makes the list and they don't.

                            Re: Help!

The USDA database uses 1" cubes for measuring 1 cup of squash. The weight is equivalent to 1/2 cup pureed as listed on the label, so I am assuming that 1/2 cup pureed is the amount of 1 serving of other vegetables. 1/2 cup also brings the carb count more in line with other veggies on the list.

                              sorry... couldn't resist ROFL

I hear ya on the squash thingy. I just love acorn and butternut squash and found some really awesome soup recipes after I had researched pumpkin soup last November. Unfortunately, it'll have to wait.

Pumpkin 13 net carbs per cup including 7 g fibre
Butternut 22 net carbs per cup and not much fibre
Acorn 21 net carbs including 9 g fibre

Go figure. I don't know that I've ever sat down to eat an entire cup of pumpkin as I usually use it as an ingredient in other things. Still giggling @ pumpkin being the spawn of the devil LOL
