As I recall aren't you only going to be away from home for a month? When is this stint up? When you return home, will you have your own place and your own kitchen so you can do what you want freely in the kitchen?

If this is only temporary and you are going home soon, your situation should improve in short time.
I am from Chicago and living/working in New Orleans for apx 2 months now. 3 weeks (as it often does) has turned into 3 months and from here i am headed to Phoenix and then maybe to Florida and New York in June for a much larger project then i am at right now. I will be lucky to get home for the holidays. Last year i was home for 91 days out of 365.

I did find one that said all natural, nitrate free... it has potato starch towards the end of the list and sugar isn't even listed on the nutrition panel so I figured it was the best choice available. But the price was higher so it will be an occasional treat. I wanted some turkey roll ups for lunch.
I found the same thing. Just about everything pork or turkey has sugar in it. Even the stuff in the raw meat section for turkey had sugar in it.

If i see a word i dont know i dont buy it. I can usually spot the sugar'esque chemicals but "natural flavorings" and terms like that scare me so i avoid them.

I have been buying real turkey, real pork and real beef and baking it roasting it frying it etc.

This post was asking for an alternative to doing this.

Too bad---Glad you are working and getting to see the US a little, but I was hoping you would have a kitchen soon. Did you look into staying at places like "Extended Stay America"? They have a fridge, stovetop, as well as micro, just no oven. And sometimes you can get a better rate if you are there for a long period, like a monthly rate. And you can cook ALL YOU WANT!!!

Are you from Chicago itself or the 'burbs?

I am from the Southwest side originally.

That is an excellent idea. When i was in my 20's i shared an apartment with my brother and we had a foreman grill. I seem to remember it was fast and didnt stink up the place. I already clean trim and season my meat and have it ready to cook. This might be the answer.

Depends on what you are using it for. Personally, now that I'm not on a low fat diet with Atkins I seldom get lean or extra lean ground beef as IMO it has the least flavor. Ground chuck is usually the cheapest and has the most fat and most flavor. It is wonderful for burgers and meatball type dishes. If using it for other things like casseroles where you have to brown the meat first, a colander makes it easy to drain the grease. (I usually drain the grease into a piece of aluminum foil made into a bowl-like shape. I wouldn't drain the grease down the drain. ) Ground round and ground sirloin are more expensive and have good flavor with some fat. They are good for most everything esp. casseroles, sauces and soups. HTH I also like ground chicken (and prefer it over ground turkey). You may like that too.
I have lived away from home since i was 18 and i have cooked for myself for years but my cooking is like a can of soup and a grilled cheese. Or eggs and toast. If i wanted hamburger meat i went to a burger place. When i stand in the meat aisle i have no clue about why there are multiple choices for hamburger meat. I look at 4 different steaks and they all look the same to me but they have different names and prices on them.

I looked at ground chicken and turkey and both had sugar in them. That was at the local market. They have a limited selection. To be honest though im perfectly content with ground beef. Before atkins i rarely ate beef and almost always ate chicken. Now its the complete opposite.

I wish i had time to learn to cook and do more research about what i can eat. Im so busy working and trying to get a side business off the ground that i am starting to make lists for my lists of things to do . The reason i started this thread is because i thought there might be some frozen dinner brand or national delivery service for atkins that wasn't terribly expensive. Now i realize thats not the case. Seems strange though.. the traffic at this forum is evidence that there is a huge market for it.

I am usually in a hotel. Client pays for hotel and rental car and per diem expenses. On 2 occasions in 3 years i have had to stay at the clients home. The first time was 2007 and i was in a guest bedroom so i had to use the clients kitchen. Once i preheated the oven for a frozen pizza.. came in to find that the clients never used the oven and they were storing accessories and manuals/warranty information in there. All melted and beginning to burn . Who does that? But i actually lost a lot of weight there because there were a lot of walking trails and little mountains you could walk in Phoenix. But as soon as i got home i put it all back on.

This time im in a 2 story house that sits behind a house that was built in the 1800's. The front entry is welded shut and the only way in our out is thru the garage and that leads into the courtyard of the property.

I dont have any input on where i stay. Thats between the boss and the client. I dont mind being here because i dont have to commute. Once in California the client put me in a hotel that was a 1 hour drive from his house because he had points for a specific hotel. If i had never stumbled upon atkins a month ago i wouldnt be having any problems with the roomates right now .

I was born in Uptown and lived there for 8 years. Then we moved to the northwest side where i grew up and lived until i was 27. Then i moved to Minooka which is about 50 minutes south of the loop down I55. I am moving back to Chicago sometime this year.

The Atkins Co DID have frozen dinners many years ago, but they went under...maybe 5 years ago. When the low carb craze died down, so did the demand for low carb food, and now many of the products that were available years ago no longer exist. Although in some cases...that is a good thing!
