  • need a pep talk....

Hi I am new to the board; I did Atkins 1n 1999 and lost 57 lbs, keeping it off for years. After being married, having a baby, and being in grad school I got up to 235- my highest weight ever.

I started Induction 2/1/2010, and have continued for 4 weeks. I have only lost 7 lbs ( in the first 2 weeks) and have lost no weight in the past 2 weeks. I am finding it hard to go on. I am the type of person that needs to see the scale move for motivation. Also, my clothes are no looser than they were when I first started. I am in ketosis most of the time.
    thanks,
    Jen

    Welcome to ADBB!

If you want to post a typical day or two's worth of menus, we can take a look.

How much water are you drinking?

Are you rereading your Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)?

Is it "that time of the month"?

      Re: need a pep talk....

      Thank you for responding-

It is close to time of the month for me- probably in a few days
I try to drink about 80-100 oz of water/day
For breakfast usually have a protein shake (atkins 1-2 carbs)
      snack- cheese
      lunch salad with chicken
chicken or beef with broccoli or other low carb veg

I feel as though I am eating the same way as when I was more successful on this woe years ago, but weight isnt coming off

I do realize that I'm older and metabolism may be slower.....still hard to deal with the slow loss though

i'm sure atkinsgal will respond, but stay away from the atkins shakes.

entire your typical day into fitday.com and see what your protein/fat/carb %'s are.

from the little information you have provided, it's going to be hard for the local experts to tell you what the problem could be.

i've also read that it does come off slower if you've done this before.

          >> It is close to time of the month for me- probably in a few days>>

That can account for a weight "gain".

          >> For breakfast usually have a protein shake (atkins 1-2 carbs)>>

These are never meal replacements. You need real food.

          >> lunch salad with chicken>>

          What's "salad"?

          >>chicken or beef with broccoli or other low carb veg>>

This isn't enough food for a day for you, nor is it enough vegetables.

          >>weight isnt coming off>>

My guess is you've put yourself in famine mode ... and your body is hanging on to everything you give it ... you're not eating enough.

Try using FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal and enter what you ate ... then see if the calories are 10-12 times your current body weight, and how much you have in net carbs.

I suspect you don't have anywhere near 20 net, and don't have MOST of those from Induction vegetables.

          >> I try to drink about 80-100 oz of water/day>>

"Try" means ... you might not?

You should be getting around 1/2 your current body weight in ounces of water. If you don't drink enough ... your body holds on to the water you do give it.

Not enough water = no weight loss.

Not enough food = no weight loss.

Not enough carbs = no weight loss.

Time of month probably = no weight loss.

And ... don't compare "then" to now. The only reality you have is "now".

          Hope that helps!

The %s don't tell the whole story though. They're a piece of the puzzle.

You have already lost 7 pounds and that is great. It sure beats seven pounds gained. And with the time of month coming there may be bloating. Once it is over you can see how things are doing.
Yes years and a baby will make things different. You just have to embrace the new you and not compare with the old. It is not serving any purpose.
It is working. So keep working it.

I spent two weeks withno weight loss on TOM, days before and days after affected me. I had to ride it out and yelled at my scale for two weeks. Def eat more, I wasn't eating enough either come to find out. It does not look like you are eating enough.

                Best Wishes
