  • Caffeine??

Atkins states " Excessive caffeine has been shown to cause low blood sugar, which can make you crave sugar."

If the only problem with caffeine is low blood sugar, pour me another cup!

My problem is not being able to get my sugar levels down, even on Atkins Induction.

    Any suggestions?

What do you eat? We could take a look, if you post a complete menu, with quantities and net carbs for all foods and drinks.

Low blood sugar if followed by a high. You want to keep your blood sugar stable... that should be your aim.

        Georiana:

I created a ticker, but can't seem to get it to stick.

As for my diet, I stick fairly close to the same menu.
Breakfast, when I have time is a couple of eggs (fried or hard boiled), and 3 or 4 strips of bacon.

Lunch: a large salad (frequently grilled chicken from McDs and a McDouble with cheeze and no bun).

Dinner usually consists of meat (grilled or fried, could be chicken, beef or pork) and a salad or mixed vegetables.)

Water usually isn't a problem, as I already drank copious quantities daily.

Unfortunately, I run myself ragged and don't usually take time to write down each carb. That being said, I have been in ketosis steady since at least February 23rd, possibly longer, but I wasn't testing regularly.)

I did find a further description of how caffeine works. Apparently the reason blood sugars drop is because caffeine increases insulin production which results in MORE FAT!

This morning the wife and I switched to decaffinated!

If caffiene makes you crave sugar isn't it crazy how much sugar they put in caffienated beverages! It is almost as bad as putting nicotine in ciggeretes to get ppl to smoke! ahhhh

            Re: Caffeine??

Day 2 Caffeine free, got a tad sleepy yesterday afternoon. Not sure if it was the lack of caffeine, or my mind telling me that without it I should be tired.

Either way, shutting off the caffeine han't seemed to have any other side effects.

Caffeine boosts insulin production which lowers blood sugar. Now that sugar has to go somewhere. If you've ever watched Fat Head or read Good Calories Bad Calories, you know that insulin is a fat storing hormone. If your blood sugar dropped after a caffeine hit, chances are the sugar got converted to fat and stored in your fat cells. I don't think you want that.

Thanks for the update on insulin and caffeine. I found an article on the same subject shortly after posting my thread and have since gone caffeine free.

                  Re: Caffeine??

Lastest drink modification. Drank a pot of decaf yesterday morning. Yesterday afternoon I made a pot of herbal tea. I had purchased some tea concocted out of herbs collected in the wild and "assembled" for the treatment of joint pain. I put a couple of large pinches in a coffee filter, added 4 green tea bags and a couple of sprinkles of cinnamon. Made a great tasting tea! Plu I drank 1 gallon of water .

All at work. I also drank water before work and with dinner.

I think I'm starting to grow gills, lol!
