  • coconut oil on induction?

i was reading about the cocnut oli thing and was wandering if you could still use it on induction? Also if balsamic vinegar is ok to use on salads during induction?
Thought due to my naughiness I'd stay put on induction for longer and **** more weight. i will fit into my denim skirt and look half decent this summer in my bikini! (going on holiday with my bf and his skinny sister and her boyf )

coconut oil is fine as long as it is non- hydrogenated. If it's solid at room temp that's an indication that it's ok, I use it for cooking, I use a high quality organic one. Hydrogenated coconut oil is a trans fat and very bad for you.

Balsamic vinegar is not allowed on induction as it contains sugar. quote from the atkins site:

For salad dressing, use oil and vinegar (but not balsamic vinegar, which contains sugar) or lemon juice and herbs and spices. Prepared salad dressings without added sugar and no more than two carbs per tablespoon serving are also fine.

On pg. 228 of the DANDR book it says and I quote " Liberal amounts of fats and oils are permitted. This includes butter, olive oil, mayonnaise and any oil that is liquid at room temperature. (Consume no hydogenated oil or other trans fats ----- including margarine."

I'm now totally confused. I'm sorry, but I thought all solid oils are hydrogenated. Including coconut oil if it is a solid.

As I understand it, solid oils at room temp *I think* have more saturated fats, which is what makes them stay more solid at room temp.

Their solidity depends on the temp of the room -- I have coconut oil I use for lotion in my bathroom, and it is usually always runny. In my bedroom, the tub is usually harder, ranging from flaky, to can barely poke my finger in, to can stir w/ finger.

Hydrogenation of oils is a process where *they* (those famous people) add a hydrogen somewhere in the molecule. It turns fats into transfats which are EVIL. Hydrogenated oils, as I understand them, are entirely unnatural meaning man-made. NOW -- SOME trans fats occur naturally, I've heard there's a little tiny amount in beef fat, for example.

[Please, any chemists out there who can explain hydrogenation better? The closest I come is my dad!]

Other solid fats at room temp, that obviously are allowed on ANA, or we'd all be doing a lot of trimming: beef, pork fats. Think of a steak or slice of bacon -- the fats are solid (to differing degrees) when they're sitting out. Think of butter --- unless it's a reallly hot day and you don't have air-conditining, it's going to hold its shape mostly when it sits out, too, not run around.
