  • The Low Carb Bible and questions?

I just bought this recipe book for pretty cheap called the Low Carb Bible, and I must say just reading through it , I am deeply disappointed. I have been on this WOE for 3 months and have lost a total of 20 pounds and 3 inches around my hips. Its something, Plus i feel better about this WOE. Reading through this cookbook/ bible, i have so much negativity towards it!

First I was browsing, and some ingredients it has in many recipes are like corn syrup, or powdered sugar, or brown sugar. Then i jumped to the dessert section. None of these desserts even sound low carb, for example one is chocolate smores. Its chocolate wafers, low fat Carmel and marshmallows. Nothing about that recipe is low carb.

Anyways I love cooking from linda's site and regularly do, just looking to venture out for new recipes so my hubs wont complain ( he isnt on this WOE).

Anyways, I have a couple questions regarding my weight. I have lost 20 lbs on the scale, however, im still wearing the same shirts and pants i did before I started. Also, I have went from 41 inches to 39 inches on my hips/lower waist. I dont feel like I am loosing what I should be, I have been jumping up and down on the scale and only really loose when I am eating 75 % fat and between 20%-22% protein and 5% or less carbs.

Does this mean in order to loose i must eat at least 75% fat in my diet daily?

Thanks for the help and letting me rant a bit =)

"Low carb" is not a defined term. "Low carb" doesn't mean Atkins.

"Low carb" can mean whatever the publisher wants.

And ... the recipes might be "low carb" compared to ...

    >>only really loose when I am eating 75 % fat and between 20%-22% protein and 5% or less carbs.>>

    Atkins is "high fat".

What exactly are your 5% carbs?

very true, i just think i was hoping for something a little more

      <<What exactly are your 5% carbs?>>

depends daily, I always have a salad with cucumbers almost everyday, breakfast i always include some veggies such as mushrooms or bell peppers and some onions in like an omelet, Lunch is normally a salad with chicken salad or tuna salad ( made with celery mayo, salt pepper and boiled eggs) or some left overs with a side salad, and dinner ranges from mashed cauliflower to steam broccoli or mashed turnips =) with some kind of protein. Then on special days ill baked me up some jicama with a tad bit of cinnamon and splenda for almost like fried apples =)

I can see how that would be dissappointing ... expecting one thing and getting another.

Return it and get the 'right' cookbook! Don't keep that book. It just might discourage you too much!

How many special days do you have?
I suggest logging seriously everything you eat use FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal and see if anythings jump out.
I think if you are losing things are going well. We have our individual speeds. My weight never came off super fast or anything. But I always told myself - at least I am not putting any on - and continued.

yea i actually use the fitday program that you can buy off fitday, i like it alot, i tend to notice when i do not have atleast 70% fat I stay they same, If i have 75% fat then i go down on pounds jsut a tad bit. And normally my special days are once a week, either friday or saturday i feel like its a cheat day having these treats and I want to keep it that way. I wish I could loose faster, but we cant always get what we want, plus it helps me with practicing patience

what are you doing as your exercise part of your atkins?

have you adjusted your portions now that you are 20 pounds lighter? are you feeding your hunger and stopping or just eating it cause you got room in your belly food on the plate and carbs in the budget?

Re: The Low Carb Bible and questions?

my exercise is 4 days of couch to 5k and the other three are pilates/yoga and weights and walking my dogs for about a mile every night. Portion control has definitely went down from when i first started. For breakfast at the beginning i was eating 3-4 eggs and 6 strips of bacon, now 2 eggs with veggies and 2 strips of bacon. It all varies but at the beginning i was eating around 2000 calories a day, now i am down to around 1500 a day and completely satisfied =)

sounds like you are making a good start. remember to measure so you can see inches of body fat being shed even when the scales don't move.

And remeber as you get lighter you need to step up your exercise intensity cause it takes less cals to do the exact same thing as we get lighter.
