  • Tomato Sauce

I know that this has been discussed before in some of the food areas here, but I never saw a real answer.

I want to try a pizza quiche that I saw on here, but I'm having difficulty with sauce.

Is it best to make my own with whole tomatoes? The canned stuff that I see has 2g of sugar in it. I couldn't find any that didn't have any sugar in it, and I know that sugar is a no no.

    What do you all use?

    Re: Tomato Sauce

You can find canned tomato sauce with no ADDED sugar.

The 2 grams of sugar in what you're looking at might be the naturally occurring sugar (carbohydrates) from the tomatoes.

You can certainly make your own.

I used canned ... without added sugar in the list of ingredients!

        Probably Hunts.

You have to read the list of ingredients of everything though ... if I recall, the low sodium Hunts has added sugar ... even though the regular doesn't.

Its kinda like a relish, I microwave chopped up tomatoes then blend them with alittle spring onion and then boil for awhile on low heat, great hot, great cold. =]

Same here as Atkinsgal, I just buy the 100% natural tomato products and check the ingredients list on the can. The carb count's pretty good even counting all the herbs and garlic I use to kick it up a few notches. Nummy!
