  • Sports/Workout Addiction

I have spring fever. Since starting to work out a couple of weeks ago, I have fallen in LOVE with it. I have been more active in the past year, than I had been in probably 7-10 years. Playing soccer in a league, beach volleyball, taking up squash again, and starting to play tennis. I've even started thinking about training for 5km or 10km local runs.

Here's the problem. There are only 7 days in a week... I play soccer from July to late August on Thursday nights. I play Ultimate Frisbee on Wednesday nights after the ground dries out a bit until it freezes again. Squash League play is also on Wednesday nights. Hockey is over at the end of March, but it goes from November to March every Sunday night. Beach Volleyball starts in late June, early July, and is two nights a week.

How does one choose what they will participate in? How do you convince your family that, even though you love them, you would really like to be involved in all these extra curricular activities.

More hours in the day are required.

Hi Farley, Glad to hear you are so busy and keeping your body in great shape. I would choose what nights or days would work for my family. Doing all of those seems like alot. You always want your family to know how important they are in your life. It is a balancing act to be sure. I wish you luck in your continued extra curricular activities.

I think you lost that right when you decided to have a family. You can choose some of the things you want, but not everything. My husband voluntarily gave up some of his recreational activities when we got married (partly because of time considerations, but also because some of them were dangerous). I willingly give up pursuit of some hobbies I enjoy because my family needs me - and I'd rather be with them anyway.
