    Blood Glucose UPDATE!

Wednesday, after my doctors visit, the doc gave me a prescription for Glyburide. In the past, glyburide did nothing for me, didn't effect the BG any significant amount. Got the prescription filled yesterday and took one pill with my Metformin before going to bed.

Woke up this morning with a fasting BG of 129 (100 points lower than has been the recent norm). I would expect the last month or so of limited meds (no insulin) and a controlled carb intake has reduced the insulin resistance enough to allow the Glyburide to do its job. This is the closest to a normal blood glucose reading I have had in many, many months!

    Woo Hoo!

      Sorry, missed that question.

A1C levels were 11.2, this time they were 9.9. We will test again in July.

woo hoo 129 looks like atkins and meds are working for you.

When you talk with your doc about your thyroid needs be sure to discuss how the new blood gluocse med which you obviously need is going to interact with your thyroid meds cause it is one of the diabetic meds listed as effecting thyroid medications. I'm sure there is a fancy formula somewhere that will factor the amount of FT3 you need plus the interferance of your meds on a swallowed dose so they can get you as close to what you need as possible without using you as a pin cushion every 6 weeks using the old trial and error method.

            Still here!

Spent the weekend at a 4-H Volunteer Training camp, without access to computers. Good thing I went grocery shopping before I got there or I would have had to go hungry. It appears that providing food for diabetics and/or special diets isn't on the priority list. I did fine (with the exception of 2 meals where I wasn't sure of the identity of the main dish. Mystery Meat, 2 meals out of 3, )

Monday and Tuesday weren't much better. Monday morning, bright and early, I got to go to my eye specialist to get shots in my eyes (NO FOOLING!) The medicine is to absorb moisture leaking into the eyes from my blood vessels and to slow the proliferation of new blood vessels, which, for your eyes is a BAAAD THING! They used a drug approved for slowing the growth of new blood vessels in the COLON! Needless to say, my visual acuity has gone to the crapper!

After all of that, I'm still sitting at 288.

As for the thyroid meds, my Dr. says I don't need any. Looks like I'm going to have to watch the bad thryoid foods and up the good ones on my own. I still don't see how being in the bottom 25% (or lower) for TSH and T4 and below normal on the T3 can be OK.

As for my liver screening, my tests came back well within the "healthy liver" range.

The Metformin/Glyburide effect has apparently worn off. My blood sugars are back up around 200. Not quite as high as they were. The Dr's orders are to wait a week or so and then go to two pills twice a day, which is the max for Glyburide and Metformin.

This weekend is looking up for activity. I have to build a closet for our rifle club in the local VFW so I can store equipment without having to always haul it home. As long as I stay busy, the urge to snack (even on Atkins approved snacks) is limited. Just have to keep a jug of cold, clean water handy.

            Have a great day!

they are not okay. You should see about seeing an endocrinologist since you need some help with your blood glucose and your thyroid and you'd have a doc trained to deal with both.

I'm going to have to get ahold of my endocrinologist to see about a second opinion.

I would hate to find out that my being stuck at 288 pounds is a thyroid problem and that it could have been resolved easily.

I would have to go back in the records to see what the reading was that next morning. (Edit: Went back, the next morning's fasting bg was 137.)

However, this morning, my fasting blood sugar was 98, yesterday was 113, and Sunday morning was 116.

Blood sugars have normalized and my Tuesday morning weigh in was down 3 pounds to 285, one more pound and I will have lost a total of 70 pounds since February 2009! (I'll have to adjust the ticker later this morning.)

These numbers are with two medications Metformin, in the form of Glumetza 1000 mg AM & PM (I can't take Glucophage) and Glyburide 5 mg A< & PM. If the numbers continue to drop my Physician and my Endocrinologist will be looking at reducing those.

However, when I was taking Insulin, I was taking 2 different kinds and taking a couple hundred units of Insulin daily. So, three pills twice a day is a major improvement.
