I just moved to Florida a week and half ago and live with my boyfriend and a couple of roomates , and my boyfriend is being totally non supportive of this diet, he just doesn't understand that i can't eat pasta and carby foods. I have fallen off the wagon for the past week and a half, and i feel so blah, and im having a hard time getting back on track for some reason =[

Re: in some serious need of support right now.
Sorry you're having trouble.
A little bit of tough love here ... why should he understand that you won't eat pasta and carby foods ... you've not been proving him wrong.
You're responsible for what you eat ... unless he's tied you to a chair, and force fed you, then whatever you've eaten has been your responsibility.
It's YOU who has to be supportive of your "diet" ... it's YOU who has to draw the line in the sand as to what you will and won't eat.
If you want to get back on track, make the next bite Atkins.
And when he wants pasta or other carby food, that's his business. You don't have to eat it.J.

Re: in some serious need of support right now.
Moving is stressful, no question about it.
Buy a scale ... then you'll know.
I think the more important issue is figuring out why you're putting so much emphasis on the boyfriend's approval ... and giving up your own approval.J.

Re: in some serious need of support right now.
Hi R,
How is school coming along?
When do you plan on entering the academy? How much do you need to weigh to get in? I remember that was your main goal, getting in the Police Academy.
Why does it bother your boyfriend if you do not want to eat pasta or other carby foods? What if you told HIM him it bothers YOU that HE eats pasta and carby foods!
Men can be SOOOooo Stubborn...LOL
Hang in there, and do what is best for YOU.259/206/149

Re: in some serious need of support right now.
How do you handle the cooking? I do most of the cooking here, therefore, I do what I want.
However, at times, I do make my kids things I don't eat (for example, tonight I made them pizza and I had steak). What if you were a vegetarian or you had diabetes? You would make what you needed then.
It takes a lot of willpower when the people around you aren't doing Atkins. You can do it though. Remind yourself of how good you have felt as you have lost weight and gotten near your goal. Don't think about what you aren't having, think positive about what you can have and what it does for you. Your bf can understand what you are doing, and why...or he can just be quiet about it and let you do it.
Sorry, not sure how much a scale costs...I use my Wii fit for weighing.
Good luck! You can do it!

Re: in some serious need of support right now.
My husband wasn't supportive either at first. It took a few days of the first week and he tried to tempt me. I resisted and still do. Now he goes to the store and buys me food he knows I can eat. Your boyfriend will come around, if he does not, and this WOL is that important to you...think about it.
You did awesome and lost a lot of weight. Congratulations.

Re: in some serious need of support right now.
If you're able to buy your own food, then just be responsible for your own diet. I'm in charge of grocery shopping for me and my bf, so I plan dinners that both of us can enjoy (he gets steak and potatoes, I get steak and asparagus, etc).
Sit down with him and explain to him the basics of Atkins and what it involves so he understands not just that you can't have high-carb foods, but why you can't have them. Maybe he's not supportive because he doesn't understand what's involved.
Scales aren't that expensive. I bought mine for $15 or so at Wal-Mart.
Good luck!! You're so close to your goal!!

Re: in some serious need of support right now.
Has he been with you while you've lost all this weight? If so maybe he's getting insecure, not unusual for them to try to mess you up because they dont' want you to change and (in their head) leave them for someone better.
There is no man worth going back to feeling fat and miserable over. But only you can decide to take control of your life and eating back. If he loves you he'll understand.

Re: in some serious need of support right now.
Just wanted to say sorry you're going through this.
Moving is hard. Negotiating life with roommates/a boyfriend has its challenges too.
When I feel de-motivated, I find that looking at other people's before/after pictures really helps. I do this for like, 2 hours on every low carb site I can think of. This pumps me the heck up for real!
Also going on a grocery shopping trip and getting all the low carb foods that I totally love and spending an afternoon making stuff. For example, maybe 3 or 4 of these things:
1 pack of bacon cooked on a cookie sheet in the oven - 20 mins on 400
2 bags of frozen green beans and 1/4 cup of olive oil cooked at the same time as the bacon, maybe a little longer
6 or a dozen deviled eggs
Crustless low carb pumpkin pie
A baked egg dish
A beef roast in the crockpot
Low carb meatballs or plain burgers - i bake these in the oven with whatever else is baking
spinach/artichoke dip
Tons of cut-up peppers, cucumbers, celery
Jalapeno poppers - cut a jalapeno in half, scoop out the seeds, put in a lil bit of cream cheese, wrap with 1/2 slice of bacon - bake at 400 for like 30-40 mins
Oven roasted brussels sprouts
Then when it's meal time I'm all "Yay! DEVILED EGGS NOM NOM NOM", and it's easier to stay on plan because I can easily choose stuff that I love.
And lastly! I find that having a super satisfying breakfast with adequate fat helps me make better choices throughout the day.
I hope these help. Take care.Stats: 5'4" | HW: 218.5 | CW: 175 | GW: 170

Re: in some serious need of support right now.
Wow ELizabeth! Never thought about making bacon in the oven! Does it make a big mess though? I make mine in the microwave on paper towels, but it never comes out right...some bits still soft and others burnt!F44yrs young 5'7" SW172/CW152/GW140

Re: in some serious need of support right now.
walmart has good digital scales around $25...
as for the boyfriend.. what I'm looking at is that you've lost a lot of weight...... does he not understand that is because of the low-carb choices you've made?
maybe he's threatened in a way.. that you've empowered yourself to make such a change..
if you REALLY want to get to that goal... get tough girl! and Git R DONE!!
(I envy you.. almost being there.. I've still got a ton to lose this time)2-15-10 194.8 - highest ever!
2-20-10 190.4 - new scale
3-20-10 177.8 - 1 month
5-10-10 169.8 - 25 pounds gone!
