  • Need some help...

Okay, so...I am kind of a picky eater :/

I hate hamburger meat/steaks/ribs...and I'm not a big fan of fish.

I love chicken, though. (Sometimes ((after eating it daily)) it gets old)

    I hate*** eggs.

What other options do I have? I really like pork...bacon is yummy :P (but I am not willing to pay a lot of money for the "good" kind :/ The economy has kind of taken it's toll on me ): )

Are deli meats okay? I was wondering about some turkey from the deli at the local walmart. I just need to know if that's alright before I spend money on it.

About the bacon, I'm in induction and is it okay to eat bacon with <1 carb in it and with sugar in the ingredients? Is there a huge chance that this will stall me? I really want to do this right.

Thee is no need to eat beef in any form on Atkins, but most people think it is a good idea to eat oily fish now and again.

Pork and chicken (and lamb or turkey too) are good Atkins meats to eat but you might need to add extra fats of some kind if you choose skinless chicken breasts as your main meat choice as it is heavy on the protein and light on fat.

No need to eat eggs either if you don't like them, but if you can eat them mixed into recipes it will expand your choices when planning menus.

Deli meats are often packed with sodium and sugars under one name or another (corn syrup, dextrose, HFCS etc) but you can ask the staff to show you the labels to sort out which ones have no added sugar or starches and would be OK to eat. You could buy a big pece of meat and cook it to have later as cold cuts. Then you would know it had no extra added stuff!

Some people fare well on bacon and others don't, so you will have to see how your body copes with it. There are brands available with no added sugar - check labels for this.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

What about using ground pork meat then?

There are cheap cuts of meat, too.

You can also buy what's on sale.

You would need to read the ingredients and check how many carbs it has. Deli meats are typically cured with sugar... so it's probably better not to have them on a daily basis.

Less than 1 carb per what amount? How much is a serving?

Many people occasionally eat bacon with no problems... even if there's sugar in the list of ingredients.

Not sure if you have a good butcher in your area. They typically have any and every cut of meat imaginable and at prices better than you would find in any grocery store. You may want to look into that.

My SuperWalmart carries a high end brand-Black Forest, or something like that. The Mesquite Turkey is the best as far as taste, carbs, and sugars, but it is very expensive, and no preservatives, so it does not last long.

              Re: Need some help...

I have been making my own deli meat. I take a turkey breast and rub it with spices and roast it. Once it has cooled I slice it in thin slices and put it in ziplock bags. I make all kinds. Sometimes I crush garlic and peppercorns and make peppercorn turkey or just plain turkey. I find it really doesn't take that much time just season it throw it in the oven while I watch TV, let it cool in the fridge while I sleep and slice it up the next day. I get more bang for my buck this way as I pay less per pound.

I also take some of it and cut into cubes to throw on salads or dip in mayo for a snack so I end up getting 2 for the price of one.
