  • oh dear

I was doing so well, extended my induction to 4 weeks.

However i was struck with a family bereavement earlier this week, ended up pigging out on about 120g of blueberries and hit the diet pepsi (3 glasses) yesterday, today i had a diet pepsi and 100g of almonds

I worked out that i wasn't actually eatting over 20 carbs, but i still feel rotten for it, and a cheat!

Do you think this will have taken me out of ketosis? I'll be delighted if it hasn't, but if not it's back to square one!

I agree, there is nothing you can do about yesterday, except remember the lessons learned from it.

as far as cheats go... don't beat yourself up for a few nuts and berries... heck.. when I cheat.. it's half a pan of brownies...

I doubt that will even kick you out of ketosis..

keep us posted.. I'm just anxious to know...... I can't even get the sticks to turn this time.. (although I'm losing weight).. and I'm blaming my thyroid medicine...

oh.. and I'm very sorry for the loss of your family member..... In another post I made somewhere.. I mentioned that... death of family or friends... is one of the things that has made me throw it out the window and eat whatever was there.... it was just a choice I made at the time...

in times of big stress and all.. I get my priorities mixed up.. and the 'live for the moment and what tastes good right now' .. kicks in.. then I regret it.....

I'm sure you'll be back on track soon..
        take care..

          Re: oh dear

So sorry to hear about your bereavment and well done for at least sticking to the lower rung OWL foods when you ate off-plan.

As the others have said, no need to restart your 14 days induction as long as you carry on eating to plan from now on.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

How much weight do you have left to lose? Moving to OWL might be a better strategy.

Plus, in OWL, blueberries and almonds would be acceptable.

I worked out that i wasn't actually eatting over 20 carbs
You are counting net carbs, not total carbs, right?

                Re: oh dear

I'm currently 12 stones 9 pounds, i want to be around 10 and a half, or 11 stones

I do try to count net carbs but sometimes i just look at the carb total and forget to minus the fiber...

I eat alot of veggies and meats, cheese as a topping, fats and alot of water, i was just worried about my ketosis

                  Sorry for your loss.

I don't see how berries and almonds will kick you out of ketosis.

What do you think about all the suggestions to move to OWL?

                    Re: oh dear

I think it sounds good to me, after all, i want to hit my goal by august because thats when i go away to new york but at the same time, i don't want to hit my goal beforehand (which would probably happen on extended induction) and end up wandering onto chocolate etc, that used to make me feel sluggish, warn down and horrible

                      Re: oh dear

Staying on "extended Induction" all the way to goal is a good recipe to regain all your weight ... since you won't have learned what you need to learn about foods and your body in order to do maintenance ... which is keeping the weight off.

There really isn't an average... just like there isn't for Induction. Your body loses at its own speed... and the thing is, your weight loss will slow down whether you stay on Induction or move to OWL.

Don't forget to take body measurements, too. The scale doesn't always say the truth about the amount of fat we lose.

I would also suggest that you reread Chapter 14 in DANDR 2002, to make sure that you follow OWL correctly. There are some stickies in the OWL forum, too.

And I wouldn't worry whether or not you get to "goal" by a specific date.

Having that goal generally doesn't work out for people ... and they get disappointed and feel as if they've failed, rather than seeing the success of what they have accomplished.

                              Re: oh dear

Some weeks I lose a few ounces, others I lose several pounds. What I've noticed is on the weeks I'm not really losing weight I am losing inches. On the weeks I'm dropping weight my inches stay about the same. They seem to alternate so I try not to worry about a very small loss or even a slight gain on those weeks and focus on my clothes getting looser.
