  • Maggianos Terror!

So, I went to my Holy City of Pre-Atkins eating, Maggianos! I love this place more than my children and I would sell a Kidney for some of the cheesecake. It was for my friends 30 birthday and I was so close to cancelling on him, because I was not sure that I could handle the temptation. To give myself a fighting chance, I ate my dinner before going and decided I would just eat a salad when I got there. The whoel time, I was toying with the idea of having one piece of cheesecake since I had not cheated for over two months.

Well, the wait for a table was unbelievable and by the time we sat down, I was starving. Thinking quickly, I told my firends that I was diagnosed with a Gluten allergy and that I could not eat "Family Style" as is customary at Maggianos. When I told the waiter this, he said that there rules state that if it is a table of eight or more that you have to eat Family Style. So I summoned the power of "The Atkins Diet Bulletin Board Members" and I told him what I thought of his rule! He said that he would have to get the managers approval for me to order off of the A La Carte menu. That is when my football buddies started in on me, but the more they pushed me the more dug in I got......I am a stubborn SOB.

So finally, the manager returned and approved my extremely "inconveniant" order. I ordered a baked chicken dinner and watched them gorge on carbs. Then my Kryptonite arrived.....The cheescake. To torment me, they all made the most dramatic gestures and eating sounds as they ate it in front of me. I could not have cared any less at that point, because I was dug in!

At the end of the dinner, I watched as they all complained about how stuffed they were and how they felt like they were going to throw up. Most of them were wiping sweat off their brows and two started to say they had indigestion. One of my buddies was almost asleep at the table by the time we checked out. I comfortbale sat their feeling great!

Get prepared, the battle will find you at some point! Keep up the good fight Soldiers!

Job extremely well done! What a great example. And major kudos for standing up to the restaurant's stupid, unhealthy, and unreasonable policy for large parties. No way do they have the right to force someone to eat unhealthy food.

Well, you are right JulieB, because just last night alone, I lost four pounds! That would not have happened had I cheated or given in to rudeness. ShannonM, it was really surprising that I had to get a Presidential Pardon to not eat carbs. The waiter asked why I came to an Italian restaurant if I was not going to eat carbs? I told him that it was because I wanted to fight the man. He looked at me and then said, "sure, why not! humph!"

It was fun! Thank you stagnant, mitzimarie, atkinsgal and Peyton!

Thanks Dryunderwater! By the way, I have posted a reward for my rear-end. If anyone can find it, I would appreciate it if you returned it to my attention. I looked in the mirror this morning and it seems that I have lost my "moneymaker" on this diet.

                    lol! Love ya all!

I think a letter to the corporate office telling of your experience has been deserved by this location.

It is none of their business why you came to eat there with your group, and none of their business what or why you are ordering or not ordering. There is no need for rude remarks. HOW DARE THEY! I wonder what color their faces would have turned if you told them you could not eat "whatever", because you had a terminal illness, your time is limited, and could only eat certain things? (I apologize for even saying that, and do not mean it to be offensive to anyone). But again...HOW DARE THEY!

My husband and I owned a restaurant for 20 years, and we NEVER insulted a customer, even if they were wrong, or rude themselves. In fact, I can not even tell you how many times we sent out a bus boy or hostess to the nearby store if we had a guest/customer with a special request and we did not have what they requested---if it was something that we could reasonably obtain quickly--- to make their visit more enjoyable!

That's the problem with these national chains. They do not care about the average customer, just the bottom line, and because of their marketing and purchasing power, they put most of the independent restaurants out of business.
