4 weeks today No success at all

  • 4 weeks today No success at all

    Hi
    Today is the end of week 4 on induction. The scale hasn't moved and neither have I lost inches anywhere. The odd thing is I am always burning ketones. How long would you do this before you gave up? Has anyone else experienced nothing at the end of week 4?

    Why don't you post a menu?

    We'll need quantities, net carbs, and how much water you're drinking?

    Are you on any meds?

    How much weight do you have to lose?

      Certainly post a menu - that will help to see where you may be ingesting something you could change.

      Are you exercising? Water intake?

      Everyone is here to help so the more information that you can provide the more feedback you will be able to get.

        You are in the same boat I am in. As I read DANDR I find I need to up the fat, cut the protein and REALLY watch the net carbs.

          We have had some members who lost no weight or inches in their first few weeks but did get to goal by following the 4 phases of Atkins.

          Apart from no loss of weight or inches, have you experienced any other effects of eating Atkins? Many people who have no weight to lose at all find that many health problems improve so they eat Atkins for that rather than for weightloss.

          To give us an idea of your build, Marie, can you let us know how much weight you want to lose, your current weight and your height? Many of us put that info in our signatures block (click on 'User CP' then 'edit signature') to save people needing to ask.

            Thank you to all replies. Heres the thing; I am 60 inches tall with the frame of a 12 year old. Really small but carrying an extra 15 pounds which is all around my mid section so I look really odd given my frame and height. One of the things that makes Atkins easy for me is that once insulin is shut down and ketosis kicks in I have zero appetite. I bet I eat less than 500 calories and maybe only the carbs in meat and cheese and eggs. Maybe some green veggies. No I admit I dont get my heart rate up via exercise although I walk about 3 miles just at work 3 days a week. I think I know what the responses will be. Try and up calories and get that heart rate up! Yes? What confuses me is ketosis all day and no loss of inches. I learned a long time ago not to use the scale as a reference point. I think it can really de-rail folk. Again thanks for the help

                Hi, Marie

                A few things...

                First, I would suggest putting some info into your siggie. It will help us to help you, when you need some advice. You do that by going to the blue bar at the top, and clicking on "Quick Links". Then click on "Edit Signature" and add whatever info you wish. That way, it will show every time that you post. Some good info to include would be your age, height, start date, start weight, current weight, and goal weight.

                Next, I would make a point to get in your Induction veggies. Going light on the veggies does not help speed weight loss, in my opinion.

                Up your calories. A lot of us use www.fitday.com to track our foods.

                You can lose weight while not being in ketosis, and be in ketosis and not lose weight... just being in ketosis is not a guarantee for weight loss. The quality and quantity of your food choices is very important. I agree with the others - post a typical menu with exact portion sizes, including everything you drink. I am sure that someone will be able to help you troubleshoot your problem.

                  My wife is also folling Atkins, She has yet to show a positive for ketosis, yet she has been loosing weight.

                  As for myself, my neck, ankles and wrists are apparently thinner. My shirts now look like tents and I've run out of holes in my belt (I have to fold the belt tail in half and tuck it into the belt loops to keep it from hanging down.

                  So it is possible to "change shape" in a positive way physically, mentally and biochemically and not show it on the scales.

                      It is not physically possible to only eat 500 calories or less a day for 4 weeks and not show any weight loss...just not physically possible. 500 Calories or less is considered aneroxia and you should be under the guidence of a doctor if you are going to dip that low. I've been there.

                      I've finally figured out that slow and steady is going to win this race, no need to drop 20lbs in two weeks in order to feel good about my success. I don't need to drop 70lbs in 3 months, it will take time.

                      I agree with everybody esle, plug in a weeks worth of menus so everybody can see what you are (or are not) eating.

                        Yeah, when through anorexia 500 was my absolute limit.

                        Just add more butter to the meals that you do have =] that should bring up the numbers.

                          It's easy to underestimate calories, especially if you don't add in your non water drinks etc. If you want to do Atkins and see results you will have to do it right. If you want to stick to 500 calories a day try the HCG diet that's their baseline but then you get exspensive hcg hormones shots or drops added to your day. I have relatives doing it and getting great results. Not the way I'd lose weight but everyone has to make that choice on their own.

                            Hi again,
                            Still waiting to hear back from you. Can you post a typical days menu and net carbs. And I am still concerned if you are eating 500 calories or was that an error. I don't want to comment until I really know if that is a correct calorie amount.
