Re: What do you think the start stats are?

I was almost one of those, but found my way back as I knew this was the only way of losing weight that has ever worked. I also realized I wasn't doing this WOE correctly the first time and that lead to increased cheating and falling off the wagon.

I think part of the problem is that this WOE can be very hard to stick to, especially when there's so many tempting foods out there. It's most often an all or nothing way of eating, meaning we typically can't go back to eating all the old things we used to (and those were the things that made us fat to begin with). It really is a mental shift to come to grips with that and then learn to love this way of eating and know you're going to do it forever.

Some people perhaps switch to a different diet, or doing it their own way, or just don't have the time to keep up with a place like this. Or those who have been successful just don't need to come back anymore. Others, like said above, couldn't get passed a particular problem with Atkins or took the time to really figure out how it is suppose to work and lose interest. I would bet 90% of people (except for this board) do it wrong. I run into all kinds of people that say they tried Atkins and did it wrong.

I have found this place to be essential in keeping me motivated. The information and support here are better than anything else I've seen... and even better yet, it works!

Re: What do you think the start stats are?

Thank you Susan423...I know this is going to help me get it back together....

and Liv.. I'm not saying it's anyone's fault here that the DIET doesn't work ....

just that I've read some rude, condescending replies that even made the poster note that the reply 'could have been nicer'.... stuff that makes me cringe.. and stuff that would make people leave the board.....

and who knows if leaving the board is enough to make someone give up on the diet altogether... I don't know......

the main thing I was trying to say is that some people come to atkins because of the 'not counting calories'.... they just dont' realize they've exchanged that for counting carbs... and when they realize that it's not as easy as they first thought.. that's when they leave......maybe....

it's all just making conversation... to keep me from eating..
        2-15-10 194.8 - highest ever!
        2-20-10 190.4 - new scale
        3-20-10 177.8 - 1 month
        5-10-10 169.8 - 25 pounds gone!

The things we do to stop eating.
I have considered a rope across the entrance to the kitchen to stop me from going in there.
I agree with you, Peytonn that many people think Atkins is just eating meat and cheese. And when they find out it is more involved they may not be ready for that. I think many of those who start probably looked in the mirror that morning and then said "oh no I have to go on a diet. which one? Oh I'll try Atkins this time since WW did not work last time" But they have not really committed to Atkins and the next day they wake up they go back to what ever they were doing before. Some come back when they are ready though. We can help those who want to be helped.
I think this is a great place. Yes we many different personalities here but I love it. I would never have made it without ADBB.

Re: What do you think the start stats are?

I was just thinking the same thing today about this. I think we all know the thousand reasons why we stop, and each one of us has had an excuse.

It's a committment that takes practice and your mind has to be right. Everytime I would stop a diet it was because I felt invincible and the weight would still stay off as long as I was active. After 12 years of yo yo dieting I understand my body now and what does and does not work to keep weight off. And I know I am not invincible.

Sugar and carbs are not for me they affect me physically and mentally. And now that I am not so young anymore I can defend myself when someone ridicule's my woe.

I think people, like me, give push back because they want a quick fix. Until they understand it's not a quick fix they will get angry at certain responses. I know I did. I just had this revelation.

Everyone wants all the answers right away when starting this diet/wol. It may take a couple times off the bandwagon to get back on and stick to it.

I hope this is my sticky time since this is round 3 for me.

            Good post!

Re: What do you think the start stats are?

              Hi All,
Here then an answer from a newbie. JulieB, you are the one who guided me to this site. I saw your banner and pictures somewhere else on the internet and I thought: "I want that too!" I have been welcomed here very warmly and I read many discussions every day. However, I have not much to say myself (yet). I started March 2 and did something wrong or so. Wasn't loosing any weight. I had 2 days of carbo binging and went back on Atkins, March 18, this time after reading the book. Feeling a bit sick now (headache and in general), try to eat more veggies and drinking lots of water. I think I'm going a bit too fast down now. I was ashamed to admit my binging here on the site. I have not much interesting to say to start a new thread. When I have a question I search this side, as I did this morning about feeling sick. There must be many like me, not posting but still reading. You are very good examples for us newbies. And very valuable to us. I think I speak for many newbies when I thank you for all the good advices en warm help.

              Thank you

Re: What do you think the start stats are?

I was one of those. I originally started Atkins in 2003 and did very well until I fell off the wagon. I was here ALL the time and even became a mod for a while. Since then, I have started and stopped several times.. never being able to stick with it long term. I LOVE the foods and the way I feel and the fact that my blood sugars are under control without meds, but I just couldn't seem to stay motivated to stick with it. I always kept up with the boards, but didn't post as much as I used to. I am now back again. I'm extremely motivated and I try to visit here more often. I think it really helped me the first time, when I was so successful. Of course it also helps to pull out old jeans that were too small and they fit again, and to go shopping and buy smaller sizes like I did today. lol
