=) I was homeschooled too, started low carb at around 15 and a half just to help with anorexia and emotional eating.
Its great, but there are down sides... Like Mum fulling me up with multi vitamins YUCK!

But cutting sugar and flour makes a big difference, and its not like you'll starve ither.
    Good luck!
    Ready for change

      Re: I'm 14 and weigh about 260lbs.

Cassidy, I have a cousin who is overweight and just turned 18. I don't know how much she weighs but I would have to guess 250. She and my aunt have been doing South Beach with much success. I agree with the pp's and definetly discuss this with your family and pediatrician. If your pediatrican is like most of those in the US they probably will be against the diet because they will say "you have to have carbs in your diet." But I think a basic low carb diet may work well, even South Beach. Or you could try to find an Atkins friendly dr or nutritionist.

You will hear this from everyone, if you start Atkins, it's for life and make sure are willing to throw away the junk or have enough will power to not eat it if others in your family are. Looks like you are starting in the right direction and if you stall at some point, it's ok. Keep it up. You can do it because you will love the "high" you get from looking and feeling great over potato chips and cookies (my weakness).

I wish you the best of luck, you remind me I want to facebook my cousin and give her encouragement in her weight loss success.

        Re: I'm 14 and weigh about 260lbs.

Eighty is just a number... What if you lost fifty? Wouldn't that be GREAT too???

Anything is possible, but I would encourage you not to focus on a number. That usually leads to disappointment.

Everybody is different. Puberty doesn't happen over night. When those changes start to occur, coupled with a healthy diet & excercise, good things will happen to your body.

Slow down and relax, you didn't get to your current weight in six months. Take it one day at a time and see where you're at in September. I think you'll be happiliy surprised with the results.

As already stated talk to your doctor and/or a dietician to make sure you're getting all of the nutrients, vitamins and minerals you need to grow up healthy. Regardless, cutting out junk food, flour and sugar will not hurt you at all. Keep up the walking and water. Two of the best things any of us can do for ourselves.

        Best of luck!

          Re: I'm 14 and weigh about 260lbs.

I concur with polar bear. I am just now realizing I can't make myself be what weight I want to be in the time I want it. I will not be as skinny as I wanted to be for my 30th birthday in a bikini. I don't care because I know I will look a lot better than I did 10 lbs ago.

I promise you will get to a point in this journey where you will feel great, euphoric, "high" from the way the weight loss feels and how you feel great in new smaller clothes.

I still see myself as fat in a lot of areas but I also see where I have changed and I see that as a positive. What I love most, is I have control over my food choices and I am making a positive step for the rest of my life.

Sorry to hijack your board but I hope you stay encouraged.

Yes, under the supervision of a doctor, so they can monitor any changing levels and supervise things in general it would probably be safe for a young person.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
