  • Why I am thankful for Atkins.....

    First let me preface that I posted some of this on the 14 day induction board, but I wanted to put this on the main board...

    I am on my first day of the second week of induction. I learned about Atkins when I was in the Army, but I learned about it from a guy who told me he would do it for a while before weigh ins. Looking back, it was really just carb starving and then carb purging after the weigh ins.

    When I got out of the Army I couldn't exercise initially because of my injuries. I got really heavy. I kept eating terrible without putting in the miles every day like I could in the military. My mother-in-law found a "miracle diet" in Woman's world and showed it to me. I went for it full speed. I went from 272 to 198 in around 4 months. I was always nauseous, I would get dizzy if I bent over and stood up, and I was tired all the time. This other "low carb" diet is dangerous. When I would contact their online help, they would say," That means its working!" They made me count all carbs including dietary fiber and Sugar Alcohols. They told me to try to keep my calorioes below 800 a day and exercise 2 times a day for 30 minutes. It was ****. Then, when I got to my goal weight, I ask what I was suppose to do now. They told me that any diet around would be fine. What BS.

    I was sucked into that diet in 2006. I had experimented with atkins before that, but never had read the whole book. I lost around 70 lbs really fast, but it was because I was starving my self. Then, there was no real maintenence plan, so within a year and a half I was heavier than when I started. It was basically a low carb, low fat, low food diet. It was awful. And worse yet, it cost me money to join up. I am so bitter about that. I am grateful for Dr. Atkins because he has built in rewards into this WOE. Just think, if I keep eating clean for another week I can have 5 more veggie carbs a day! Another week after that more dairy, then nuts! Eventually, I can even enjoy a low carb beer or two when I am BBQ'ing! And how about the recipes for low carb cheesecake? I planted some strawberries at my house so I can have some when I get to that rung. Best of all, when I get to my goal weight, there is a clear plan full of healthy delicious foods and deserts?!This is awesome! SNATTY my !

        Was that crazy diet "Kimkins"? Sounds like it was. If it was, there's a class action lawsuit against her.

                    Re: Why I am thankful for Atkins.....

                    atkins gets lots of lawsuits too but the difference is

                    atkins = good
                    kimkins = bad

                    look at this lawsuit against atkins

                    Jody Gorran, a 53-year-old businessman is suing Atkins Nutritionals, Inc. and the estate of Robert C. Atkins, M.D., for negligent misrepresentation, product liability, and deceptive and unfair trade practices. The suit charges that Gorran's total and LDL-cholesterol levels shot up from very low to abnormally high within two months he began following the Atkins diet, but he continued using it because passages in Atkins's book and Web site reassured him that it was safe to do so. About two years later, Gorran developed angina and required angioplasty to unblock a coronary artery that had nearly closed. His suit seeks damages plus a court order to force Atkins's books, Web sites, and product promotions to warn that low-carbohydrate diets can be hazardous to health and increase the blood level of LDL-cholesterol.

                    LOL looks like this person fell for the cholestoral scam scroll down in this link to find out what it is and how it happens

                      That Gorran story is from 2003, by the way.

                      And one finds it on a PETA front website.

                      One might wonder about its veracity.

                        ya its veracity is way off also i just relized some atkins newbies here may look it up so im going to point out - MANY things in the court case when you read it are complete lies from when they say ketosis = starvation too saturated fat causeing heart disease too atkins being a high protein diet are all lies

                        and it says he gets yearly cholestoral tests why didnt he publish what his other cholestoral tests said if he was on the diet for 2 years? or did he quit after 2 months

                          That's why it's best to leave this kind of junk information alone ... and not post it at all.
