  • Eeek...Vacation:)

Okay guys, I am going on vacation starting tomorrow and will be gone until the following Sunday (9 days).

And....I am staying On Plan!!! I am not using it as an excuse to so call "cheat" (which is a premise I do not believe in). This is a WOL for me and I will go on vacations the rest of my life, so its time to built those eating coping skills now.

I know I can make this WOE work at pretty much any restaurant by being a high maintenance customer, hey, its the service industry, right?

Anyways, just wondering if anyone has any helpful hints? I am going to San Diego, so I am sure I will find an endless supply of seafood. Just curious if anyone has any advice out there that may be useful.

    Thank you!

Make the best choices you can.

Read the chapter in DANDR on Eating in the Real World.

    Have fun!

I've never been to the USA but imagine that as in UK it is always possible to make 'legal' Atkins food choices if you want to.

It sounds as if you are going away with the right positive attitude, so I am sure you will do fine

And 'endless supply of seafood' sounds great to me!!

At least now you are on rung 1 of OWL you will not be as restricted on your veggies amount as you would be were you still on induction.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

        Good for you!

Be sure to bring a copy of the Induction Acceptable Foods List---because Rung 1 is more Induction veggies and you might forget that artichokes or jalapeno peppers are an acceptable food for Induction.

Have fun in San Diego. I've never been there, but I hear weather forecast is always "75 degrees and sunny" (Be sure to bring sunscreen!)

If you have a hotel room or staying with fam or renting a car buy gallons of water at a local grocery store. I find that restaurants put too much salt in food and I need more water to keep retaining water. It will also save you from buying bottles and bottles of it.

I ate a cream sauce out and that was a no-no.

remember if you get a butter sauce to dip the sea food in and you ask if this is real butter? by law they are allowed to say yes!

but in truth it has real butter + lots of other crap added into it so make sure you ask is this sauce 100% REAL BUTTER?

you always gotta ask them if its 100%

the same gos for organic food items by law in canada and usa food items can be labeled organic while still haveing up to 30% GMO in it... so the food you want to get is food that says 100% organic

but the organic laws have really gone down hill a better thing to do would be to get food from someone you trust

              Re: Eeek...Vacation

Thanks for the advice everyone. Well, day 1 is down, 8 more to go....

Things I have learned so far:

              - definitely need to buy bottled water. The hotel has loads of free coffee and juice, but no water. Nice, right?

              - when getting steamed veggies at restaurant, ask what type of veggies. Got 2 servings last night and half were carrots!!! Arghh, made me mad. pushed them off my plate in protest LOL

              - it is easy to get protein and fat when on vacation, harder to get in my veggies. On a mission to eat more veggies today as I only ate about 15 carbs yesterday. Oh well, today is a new day.

              - be wary of free hotel breakfasts. Thought I was doing well eating the eggs, then found out they were powdered eggs. No bueno. What is this, the space station?

Anywho, today is a new day! At least I am learning as I go.

Side note - why do wait staff look at me cross eyed when I tell them I am allergic to flour and sugar? Its not a difficult concept to understand. Then, when they make my modified order, they bring out the bread basket. Its like a Seinfeld episode sometimes

                LMAO Carbonator!

All hotels get your on $3 water bottle at 8 oz each. Add that up and you will be spending a fortune.

I do the same with carrots, ha ha ha! Push them off my plate in protest. I will ask the waiter what the veggie of the day is or what other choices of vegs there are.

Keep up your water because you will be consuming a lot of sodium without even knowing it.
