  • 10 tips from Nurselady.....

21 days makes a habit ...my dad said that about everything you wanted to do our change or quit whatever!!! and I still believe it !!! You can psych yourself out on anything just to get through it!!! That is exactly what I did I psyched myself right through the first 21 days on Atkins and when I finally stuck was when I finally made it past that date!!!...do I live my life "by the book" hardly!!! However I was pretty darn close with it ....I have had slips I ate more veggies during induction...but for the most part I have really been with it since October 5, 2004!!...it has worked well even on bad days to follow the 10 tips I am listing bellow

so here are some of my tips that helped me past the first few days, weeks whatever to me it was psyching myself long enough to turn this into habit!

    1. "Only 3 days until I am in ketosis" I always knew I could get back into ketosis with in three days so on the two times I bumped myself out with stupidity that would be my mantra...
    2. tried and true ..drink your damn water...don't drink pop or any other crap...water is the only thing that counts for water...so what if you do not "like" it? .. what is to like ...do you like air???? no but you breath it...so drink water..period ...if you do you will do fine if not you will fail. Everytime you pee fill your glass or bottle again!
    3. move your body and have a lot of high fat foods in the house for the first few days to help ward off the cravings just eat them..do not eat a stick of butter ...someone did that I swear...but MOG had the great idea of taking a days worth of cheese and spread it out when you are done you are done but it is a few oz's so you can eat a lot of cheese..I like to try new cheeses..that took the edge off....look at the list and for the first few days look for satiety in the fatty but healthy foods!...not bacon or other nitrate foods...I even ate duck during induction I love it and it kept me full for hours...as you add more foods you cut back on fats it all works out but the fats do really help cut cravings....especially in the beginning
    4. Tell everyone to shut the H...L up ...who cares what they think???....this is not for anyone but you......if you can not say it out loud then say it loudly in your head and just shut them out ..nod and smile...I flipped some of my best friends off in my brain many times when they made comments or ate cake in my face...I love them still..they are good people... we are still very close ....but I am sure I have done stuff that made them flip me off!!! so it was my turn!!!
    5. keep eating...eat a lot of food.....eat every bit of vegetable allowed and try to get the most color for your amts.....color + fibre=good health
    6. If you get constipated do not freak out !!! You should not explode... few people in history have...just take some fiber eat some flax drink water...avoid laxatives... do a search and see what folks do... but do not freak out....
    7. move your ***.....it is important...I do!!!!... just can not do routine exercise so I have done a lot of remodel/garden, other heavy projects and have wayyy more sex and that keeps me fit I think!!!!...
    8. Look in the mirror naked a lot ...face yourself and get used to it..it what you have to work with ...male...female...you don't have to be perfect to be hot...trust me I am hot and I am so far from perfect this statement cracks me up!!!! But I have become hot!!!!...by accepting what I have and I worked on that hard the first couple of weeks!!!
    9. Make every bite you take count for something....learn how to cook ..no excuses.....it is so silly not to have a few things you can cook for yourself and do well....whatever your role is in the house you can do that a couple of times a week ....fast food is out for this period you need to learn to eat good fresh healthy food ..or this is not going to work.....you can only eat bacon and cheese for so many days ....learn to cook and make some really good foods...come to the cooking thread or just look up low carb recipes online....
    10. Resolve all conflicts.....for at least induction you must keep conflict to a minimum because that is a big trigger for some of us to eat...so just suck it up there is always a way to find a way to resolve with people...

    disclaimer
Hay this is not science and certainly not intended as needed by everyone but help yourself if you see anything useful because most of the above I gleaned from my friends on the boards!!!.....

I look at myself naked all the time--everyday, in fact....I don't dislike what I see and I'm 277 lbs. I've never had a problem with the way I look--my issue is health....

I think it's a good thing that I don't have the whole self-image problem, but sometimes I think I'd be more motivated to lose IF I hated the way I looked....

Nice post Nursey. You are so right about the mental attitude, and yes it has to be for the person doing this WOE not anyone else.

OMG you guys thank you .....!!!!! It was seriously not meant to be deep or profound I am superficial as **** ...everything is on the surface!!!....it just helps ..even when I screw up!!! and I do!!!!....I just review the reality of those ten things .....and remember I am in the habit of living this way..I feel a **** of a lot better and look a 100 percent better now that I am at goal...no matter what if you do it right it is win win......not to mention a wonderful support of friends ...plenty of "INTENTIONAL" exercise.....this all makes getting back on track a lot easier!!!!

and do not screw with the water!!!!! I am telling you ..it makes me nuts when people say "I was so thirsty and dehydrated I drank a huge cup of iced tea!".........WTF?????? or "I am drinking so much more water now that I use sugar free Crystal Light"....AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!....or worse "I don't like water".......who cares? drink it anyway you will not die and this will not work if you dont!!!!!......period!....

ok end of my rant :raving
