Re: Only planning to do this for two weeks

People keep on talking about me being too lazy to get the atkin's book. I'm a college student. The only way I can obtain the book is via amazon, which I'm not allowed to do. Unless someone has easy suggestions for getting the information, I'm stuck. There's also tons of stuff I'm hearingi about having to check blood lipids and other things while on the atkins diet, and I doubt I'd keep that up for long. Something would go wrong at some point.

You can get it at a bookstore, too.

I'm seeing lots of bad things about this diet. Even on this forum. Blood sugar problems, blood pressure problems. Why risk those things?

For most of us, our health has improved.

However, you don't even know what Atkins is ... so ...

Ah, so you're admitting that the Atkins diet has to settle for the word 'most'? Very reassuring.

                    Not at all.

I simply won't use "all" ... because I know enough to know that "all" of anything is generally not true.

At this point in time, I think you don't know enough about Atkins to know what's true or not true.

You need to do more than just read a forum.

You need to "educate" yourself ... something you should be familiar with, since you're in college.

So ... good luck with your journey, whatever it might be.

Why are you here if you don't want to do Atkins, this is an Atkins board. If you think it's unsafe do something else and find a board that can give you the support you want. Kind of rude to post on an Atkins board and bash Atkins eating and it's supporters don't you think?

Nobody is making you try Atkins, do your own thing but don't put others down or their WOE down because you have no idea what it all about.

EDIT: Darn! I posted my response after reading just the first page. I missed the other 4 pages of replies which lead me to believe this is another one of those trolls just looking to stir me up with garbage posts. Apologies for falling into the trap and perpetuating this pointless thread...

I'm going to switch to a normal diet with the normal number of carbs (200 or 300 a day) and 2000 calories a day after the two weeks are over.
I'd be the first to admit that low carb dieting isn't for everyone, and it's certainly possible for some people to lose weight by other means and keep it off. I follow the low carb WOE because I recognize that I am addicted to carb-laden foods and I can't eat just a "regular" portion without feeling the urge to finish off the bag. If you are like me, other diets that allow you to "feed the urge" will likely fail because you can't easily and consistently overcome the urge to binge when those problem foods are present.

Whether or not you are like me when it come to carbolicious foods, what I don't get is why you would want to follow one WOE for a few weeks and then consciously move to another diet method? Why not just follow the second eating plan first? Good luck in finding an eating plan that works for you.

If your funds are tight and you cannot purchase the book, perhaps your university library or the local public library has a copy for you to borrow?

I have done this before and I did NOT gain any weight or fat back. I did induction for two weeks and then moved to a low fat low calorie diet and still lost weight. I lost 12 lbs the first two weeks of induction then I lost 15 more on low calorie in the next 3 months I also workedo out 5 times a week, the key here is to STAY with a sensible eating plan and that is always harder on a low calorie diet because you eat less food. Also its not healthy to go back and forth.

If you skip the '2 weeks' of low carb, what you are describing is just lowering your calorie intake from 4000 to 2000 per day. Over time you will start to lose weight. Leave the low carb out of it if you aren't going to stick to it. It will be a waste of time.

Also, there isn't a requirement that you get your cholesterol checked often while on Atkins. Once before you start (as you should do with all diets...) and once 6 months later (as you should do with all diets...) to make sure you are going in the right direction with your food choices.

Reduce your calories... start exercising and you will get more healthy. Since you don't want to commit to a low carb lifestyle, I would just skip it all together...
