Re: Only planning to do this for two weeks

There are definitely other plans that work out there. WWs for one. Many people (myself included) have successfully lost and kept it off with WW and other plans. LC isn't all there is. If it's not right for you do something else. It's really not a big deal just don't bash others for their WOE when you don't know what you are talking about.

You have to find whatever you can live with the best.

Re: Only planning to do this for two weeks

My thoughts as a college student you probably in all reality won't be able to keep up with Atkins. College has a lot of parties and alcohol and Atkins does become a strict way of eating in the beginning. I see you are a freshman but I know alcohol and snack foods are readily available and easy and fun. I doubt any of your buddies will be happy with you either for doing a "diet."

If you reduce your calories and work out you will lose weight. You have to stick with it forever not to gain it back.

You could just make an effort to not eat chips, cookies, rice, bread, potato with your meals. You will see a difference. And again, stick with it, forever.

You could do South Beach, which has rules too, but not as strict as Atkins. I have family members doing that lifestyle with good success.

I wouldn't tell you not to do Atkins but it is a way of life. I learned the hard way from doing it my way too. I speak from experience.

If you do Atkins induction you will see the differences and should be able to stick with it. If not, I am with 99% certainty, you will gain your weight back. Because you will be consuming what you ate before that made you fatter. Don't be a glutten for punishment.

Lastly, I hope at your young age you will find a way of life and eating that works for you. If you are healthy you should not have any problems with Atkins.

My final advice...don't start Atkins until you get the book. Read it and then decide if it's you want to do. If not, someone else will be eager to the book off your hands.

      Best Wishes.

If we ignore him how will he get help? He asked for it. It's his choice to take it or not.

"Doing" Atkins in college is not that difficult if you actually want to do it... and want to do it correctly... which does not seem to be the OP's case.

College has a lot of parties and alcohol and Atkins does become a strict way of eating in the beginning.
Parties are not, to me, about eating and drinking. There are better ways to have fun and make friends.

I know alcohol and snack foods are readily available and easy and fun. I doubt any of your buddies will be happy with you either for doing a "diet."
That's sheep behavior, imo... and it's only true if drinking alcohol together and having the same snack foods are the only reasons why you're friends... in which case I wouldn't even call that a true friendship.

Yes I have maintained all of the weight off. At 35 lbs of weight loss I have plateaued. I am doing induction again now to see if I can lose a bit more weight. My goal is to loose 15 more lbs. Not everything works for everyone kwim? I however KNOW I cannot live on the atkins lifestyle forever, but it has helped me SO much to kickstart weight loss and also to be able to control the urge to overeat. Though I dont stick to Atkins completely I do watch how much bread, pasta, rice or high carb containing foods I eat. I try to stay away from all simple carbs.

Have you looked at what is possible on maintenance?

Then why are you doing Atkins at all? You already stated you know it's not good to go back and forth. Seems to me that all you're doing is messing around with your metabolism, which is likely to come back to bite you someday. Doing Atkins once in a while isn't smart.

I agree with you Georgiana. But lets look at reality in college. Sorry. In college kids (YES THEY ARE KIDS STILL) are still growing and learning about themselves. And they DO get peered pressure.

Didn't mean to offend anyone but I was looking at the reality of the sitaution and the OP's questioning the safety of the diet.

There are other ways to lose weight, but the OP may just put it right back on.

                      Best Wishes to the OP

Re: Only planning to do this for two weeks

I NEVER understand why people get so ofended when others speak freely about not doing atkins permanently, as far as I am concerned I can do what I want and I shouldn't have to worry about other peoples opinions of my choices. I offered my story because the OP posted a similar question/comment.
Why am I doing atkins at all? Because I feel like it. As I said I stay away from simple carbs mostly but I just dont eat under 100 carbs a day to maintain, I am a very healthy person and I know what I am doing, thank you very much. I also didnt have 100 lbs or more to lose so I didnt have to worry about permanently damaging my metabolism as I dont have to be so strict to maintain so much weight off, I excercise regularly and eat healthy. NOTHING wrong with that. I respect other people's choices and think if Atkins is your thing permanently, then more power to you and if not, then do what works for you. There is no reason to hate on other weight loss plans IMO.
