I need help on using PM function

I tried to send my first PM to a potential mentor and it shows up in my OUTBOX but not my SENTBOX even though I hit submit (twice). I tried Saving it, too and that doesn't work either. I realized that with automatic sign-in I should try logging out so my OUTBOX would purge...to no avail. I'm not sure my recipient ever got this message. It SAYS my message was sent after I press submit but shouldn't it then be in the SENTBOX? What am I doing wrong?

If it says "message sent", it was most likely sent. Wait and see if your mentor responds within a reasonable amount of time. If not, post here again so we can help you out.

I was under the impression it sit's in your Outbox until the other party opens it. then it moves on to your 'sentbox' So i think they just haven't opened it at the other end yet.

Little things like thinking I was using BOLD correctly and the b's showed up :confused .
