Re: Sometimes I like my food like my motorcycle...

    >>Do you know something I don't?>>

This is the grilled chicken at McDonald's:

Boneless, skinless chicken breast filets with rib meat containing: up to 12% of a solution of water, seasoning [salt, sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, spices, whey, flavor (maltodextrin, natural flavors (vegetable source), dextrose, monosodium glutamate), partially hydrogenated soybean and cottonseed oils, Romano cheese (Romano cheese {milk, cheese cultures, salt, enzymes, calcium chloride}, nonfat dry milk, disodium phosphate), parmesan cheese powder (enzyme modified parmesan cheese {milk, cheese cultures, salt, enzymes, calcium chloride}, nonfat dry milk, disodium phosphate), methylcellulose, xanthan gum, cheese flavor (dehydrated cheddar cheese {cultured pasteurized milk, salt, enzymes}, maltodextrin, autolyzed yeast extract), extractives of paprika (color), potassium sorbate (preservative), citric acid, and less than 2% silicon dioxide added to prevent caking], vegetable oil [partially hydrogenated soybean oil, corn oil, citric acid (preservative)], sodium phosphates. May contain wheat from contact with Crispy Chicken Breast Filet.

Why would I expect another chain to have something much different?

            Knowledge is power.

I remember one time I was having a salad at McDonald's (years ago) ... and I got the ranch dressing ... Cool, I though ... it's Paul Newman, so that won't be bad.

Hmmm ... reading the list of ingredients ... it wasn't the same as the store bought:

Water, soybean oil, corn syrup solids, buttermilk, distilled vinegar, egg yolks, salt, sugar, corn starch, chives, garlic powder, onion powder, natural flavors (dairy and
animal source), lactic acid, parsley, xanthan gum, lemon juice concentrate.

One can't every "assume" that anything you didn't cook is "safe".

Good reminder to us all to read labels
I always take a few sachets of a mayonnaise in my bag that I know is OK for if we do stop at a McD or similar outlet so I don't have to 'risk' a dressing full of sugar.

eating at fast food places always sucks but some places are better than others

for example burger king get a bunless whopper thats good the whopper meat is just meat i think

but make sure you do not order any other burger besides the whopper because all the other burgers they have have soy and hydgrogenated oils and other crap in them

look what hydgrogenated oils and soy does!

According to their website, in the US:

Whopper Patties and Hamburger Patties: 100% USDA Inspected Ground Beef (Fire Grilled)

Steakhouse XT Patty: Beef, Encapsulated Salt (Salt, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil), Flavorings, Beef Fat, Beef Stock, Dextrose.

Are the Hamburger Patties different in Canada?

Re: Sometimes I like my food like my motorcycle...

I pretty much avoid eating fast food of any kind the vast majority of the time because I don't consider the so-so taste worth the risk of screwing up my otherwise good day carb-wise by not fully understanding the ingredients.

That said, sometimes you do get stuck out and about and feel the need to eat something quick and easy. In those situations, I generally opt for the low carb burger at Hardees. Filling and not bad tasting and handily wrapped up in lettuce leaves. They will make any burger they serve in a "low carb" style by wrapping it that way and leaving off the bun, but be careful about other additions like sauces or cheeses or whatever if you do that. It wouldn't be hard to accidently tack on a lot of hidden carbs like that. I have had mushrooms added a couple times without incident.

I also sent repeated emails to Arby's requesting info on the content/carb count of their roast beef minus any toppings, etc - JUST the beef. They FINALLY responded and it said it was all roast beef, zero carb or filler. I mostly trust that response, and will sometimes go order whatever is the biggest roast beef sandwich they have minus the bun and eat with a little mayo (or nothing at all). Not as filling as the low carb burger by a long shot, but a nice alternative. I would really need 2 of these to even think about being full, and I would be out about 7 or 8 bucks if not more just for a big handful of plain roast beef. Makes a good snack for me in an emergency though even if it doesn't hold me very long.

When I first was getting started on low carb, I went to KFC with a relative and had several pieces (4?) of regular fried chicken which I pulled all the breading off of. Thought I was being all good. Till the next two days where I gained several pounds of water weight. Seems some of the junk in the breading soaks into the meat even if you pull the breading off. Maybe it was somewhat due to the salt also. That instant weight gain happens to me if I eat way too many carbs or way too much salt either one, so I don't know which (or both maybe) it was. Regardless, doesn't work for me and I now avoid them.

I now live in a country where we just don't have all these fast food options. I have been complaining about it since I have been here, over three years now. (I am American) I think I will stop complaining so much. The Dutch naturally eat much more along the style of our WOE without it being called that. Funny. To them, it is just about eating good, healthy whole foods. I find that helpful to my WOE. I think I should stop complaining. It sounds like our chains are not really adapting and serving less processed foods so we can eat better.

I got a Grilled Chicken Salad at Chik fil A a few days ago. I wasn't planning on putting any dressing on it, but I was pleased to see it came with sunflower seeds. I like sunflower seeds. So I sprinkled them on the salad, took a bite, and ack! Sugary taste! Then I read the label on the seed packet: sugar. What the h*ll iare they thinking putting sugar on Sunflower seeds??!! The food industry is insane. I picked the seeds out of my salad.

It is important to remember that no matter how much you learn, there is always more information out there.

McDonald's Mushroom and Swiss Angus Burger, we recently learned, without the recognizeable carbs has 7 net carbs in part due to the seasoning they put in the sandwich.

While I was ordering my double cheese burgers "neat" I talked wih the son of the owner of the McDs next to my work. Chris revealed some "top secret" Mcds information.

1st, the burger patty is 100% Angus beef, that DOES NOT mean that the meat is 100 % Angus, it means that it is 100% beef (no additives) from Angus cattle.

He said the construction of an Angus Burger (any of the 3) begins on the grill with salt and pepper. If you prefer you burgers without salt and/or pepper, they will cook you a new burger, you just have to wait 4.5 minutes for it to cook.

Once cooked it goes to warming trays to be held until needed.

Construction continues with the placement of the burger and cheese on the bottom of the bun. All the toppings are applied. followed by 2 to 3 shakes from an "Angus Burger Seasoning" shaker. The the top is applied and the burger is wrapped for placement in an order.

IF you want it without the seasoning... ASK FOR IT WHEN YOU ORDER!

So, if I choose to order my Angus Burger with swiss cheese and mushrooms and mayonaise, and only the net carbs associated with the cheese and/or mushrooms. It is in the ORDER, not the burger!

                              My mouth is already watering!

NOTE: Chris even had the "burger maker" hold up the seasoning to show that it was put on at the final stop in the assembly line.

So if you like red meat, in big pieces, no carbs added. The Angus burger can still be for you!

When I forget my lunch, I usually go for a couple of plain double stacks at Wendy's. They are all beef patties, no filler. I put them on top of a side ceaser salad (dressing has 1gram of carbs compared to NINE at McD's) and I'm good to go.
