  • Day 4

Ok, today is day four of doing strict Atkins, I have a headache (I look at that as a good thing) and read in the new book that salt will help cure this, however, I can't have salt because I retain so much fluid.

I jumped on the scale this morning hoping to see a change, nothing. I don't feel as bloated now.

Take an aspirin. Make sure you're eating enough vegetables and drinking more than enough water.

      Re: Day 4

Thanks atkinsgal08. I'll ride out the headache, they tend to go away after a couple of days...

I've kept my net carbs between 17-19g for the past 4 days (actually day one was really low, but I wasn't really prepared but did not want to put it off another day).

I didn't sleep very well last night, I think that has a lot to do with the headache as well.

I drink 128oz of water daily (and often have about 32oz of diet lipton tea nightly, I've not had the tea in the past four days, I'm trying to stay away from anything outside of 'whole foods').

I expected the headache, I'm assuming that doing induction to the letter (though I've already gone through two weeks of induction) will induce the flu again...it's worth it...

        Re: Day 4

congrats on sticking with it and doing it by the book this time.

Some times headaches are not always caused by atkins eating so watch it and talk with your doc.

does the new book salt advice say what kind of salt to use as many minerals that folk can become depleted in come in "salt" forms?

I have a horrid feeling that one of our members had a problem with diet lipton tea a while back and then she discovered it had sugar under a different name in it. That might have been in a vending machine though.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I was doing it by the book (the new book) for the first 14 days, this is my little experiment to see if I lose more on the older version and if I am able to keep the fluid retention to a minimum
I never get headaches, this is definately from Atkins
The new book states you can use table salt (does not go into detail) or soy sauce

                Sorry to worry you
Also if you decide to use soy sauce as suggested in NANY do check the actual ingredients as many of them are wheat-based, so would not be induction-legal in any Atkins book I would think.

                  Re: Day 4

I rode out the headache, pushed more water and ate an egg...I was fine after about an hour. I don't use salt and soy sauce does not factor into my diet right now (it did when I was doing NANY.

I checked the ingredients on the label, aspartame is the only sweetener, I'm ok with that as I am not pregnant nor do I plan on being so at my age...lol.

So after this very strict two weeks I can add it back in...whew!

Thanks for the heads up, I will have to do more label reading!

                    Re: Day 4

Following Atkins certainly means spending more time label reading, doesn't it. My husband hates it when we use a diferent supermarket than our usual ones as I insist on reading all the ingredients of our 'normal' stuff if it is a different brand.
Actually I still re-read labels of my usual brands as now and again they reformulate them.
I discovered that the mayo I used to buy went from 0.9 carbs per 100 gram to 1.4 grams with seemingly no variation of ingredients Not a lot when I usually eat one or two tablespoons, but it does mount up.

Aspartme can stall some people, me being one of them. Just FYI

I would take ibuprofin and press on. Even if your body is resisting now it will give in and lose weight.
