Is there some way to find out how much carbs is in a particular med? I am able to find a list of ingredients but that doesn't tell me carb content. I have a 3 day old headache which is usually a sinus problem. Normally I'd hit it with caffeine and sudafed, I'm cutting back on caffeine, only 1 serving in am, which I've had. The sudafed lists sucrose as an ingredient but darned if I have any idea what carbs to count it...besides that if it's actual sugar and not carbs like from veggies I don't want it to stall me, I'm just on day 6 of induction. I'm thinking of maybe just taking it and counting each tab (they're tiny) as 1 carb...I know it's the coating that has sucrose, it tastes sweet for about a second till it starts to melt. Wish I could just take the darn coating off!

carbs in meds, specifically sudafed tabs
Lost 100lbs+ since May '09 with a variety of methods, calorie counting, low fat, low carb (not Atkins strict), zig zagging, etc. Would switch up diet and exercise as I stalled to reboot loss. Prior to Atkins I was about 1000cals/day, exercising fairly hard and NOT losing...so here I am to finish the job.

you can buy the noncoated genericsa but the amount in your pill is miniscule look at the size of your pill on the label and you will see it is less then a gram in weight so it contains less then a gram total of carbs if everything in it was carbs.by the book atkinseer

2big, you know what? I have generic, never buy brand name if I can get it cheaper...maybe those are just red colored but don't have the sucrose...yes, they are tiny, ok...thanks a bunch, I'm gonna go take some now!
minerva, I have considered that, lol...they're so little though, it'd be hard to get any coating off without dissolving a fair amount of the med in it...Lost 100lbs+ since May '09 with a variety of methods, calorie counting, low fat, low carb (not Atkins strict), zig zagging, etc. Would switch up diet and exercise as I stalled to reboot loss. Re: carbs in meds, specifically sudafed tabs
As well I would think it is not advisable to remove the coating of some pills as it is there to get the pill into your body before the drug dissolves. I imagine some drugs could cause problems if dissolved before they get as far as they should. (You can probably tell I dropped chemistry at school pretty early!)Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Insanity.
And dangerous ... the coating is there for a reason ... mainly to protect the lining of your esophagus and your stomach.J.

Re: carbs in meds, specifically sudafed tabs
The coating is what is called "Enteric Coating" means to get it through the stomach before it dissolves. This is done for 2 reasons 1~ minimize damage to stomach linings. The small intestine is very acidic anyway and most medications won't damage the linings there. 2~ It allows for slow absorption of medications into blood stream so medicine is released at the proper rate. Like the oxycontin drug problem, it is made to give relief over 12 hours when crushed causes overdoses.
I would say if you are having a sinus headache go ahead and take the sudafed anyway. You won't take enough to really stall you and it does ramp up your metabolism. Don't forget to do the nasal washing or lavage and hot steamy showers at bedtime. Use a couple of pillows to elevate head and shoulders at night to limit clogging of nose and post nasal drip cough.
Feel better.
