Is there any drawback to eating only egg whites and veggies for a time(besides food boredom). Say 3 months. I will add some omega's for good fat, but only the required amount. I was hoping to cleanse the colon and loose some weight at the same time, cut back on the animal fat a bit. It sounds very healthy to me, but who knows!

Re: question for a med professional
Thinner, eating only egg whites and veggies is in direct opposition with the Atkins way of eating. Atkins is a high fat, moderate protein, low carb way of eating. What you are describing is high protein, high carb (depending upon the quantity and quality of veggie), no fat meal. Definitely NOT Atkins, and not healthy, in my opinion.Originally posted by thinner View PostIs there any drawback to eating only egg whites and veggies for a time(besides food boredom). Say 3 months. Oh my bad, I figured a med professional would know the answer whether they were on the atkins forum or the veggie forumOriginally posted by msanjelpie View PostYour question would probably be better answered on a Vegetarian Forum... because what you describe has nothing to do with the Atkins diet.

- NONE OF US at ADBB should be counted upon as med professionals
- Even among medical professionals, there are differing opinions upon the healthfulness of Atkins. My doctor is 100% pro-Atkins. If you are seeking a medical opinion, my advice would be to ask your own doctor. Hopefully he will know what the Atkins way of eating entails, though, because by the content of your first post, I don't think that you do.

Want to clean your colon, bulk up on fiber and drink lots of water.Originally posted by thinner View PostIs there any drawback to eating only egg whites and veggies for a time(besides food boredom). What are the drawbacks of eating only eggwhites?
Well flavor for 1. The egg yolk has much more than the white.
Animal fat is what you want to kick in the fat burner for 2. Plus the proteins, enzymes and other animal required building blocks needed for muscle growth, repair and health are found in both whole eggs, meat and animal fats.
The high quality of the protein in an egg yolk is too much to just throw away is 3.
And, why would you want to throw away naturally present good quality fat, then go out and buy fat to replace it for 4.
The myths about egg yolks and cholesterol are just that - myths. The cholesterol in eggs does not effect your cholesterol production in a negative manner for 6.
Think I'll stop there.
As the commercials used to say: "The incredible, edible, egg!)

Re: question for a med professional
On the contrary... the atkins diet induction includes only meat, eggs, chicken, fish etc. Butter, cream, mayo, and only 20 g of carbs that must come from non starch veggies. I get that, and I was only hoping to find out info on my variation. Thanks for the infoOriginally posted by mitzimarie View PostA couple of things....

Re: question for a med professional
Actually, I don't think you don't get it at all. We are very resourceful with choosing our vegetables, so that we are getting adequate fiber and good nutrition. 20g net carbs is only for 2 weeks, and provides 6 servings of fruits and vegetables. (A serving of vegetables is 1/2 cup, and tomatoes and avocado are really fruits). I fail to see how a way of eating that promotes fresh, whole, unprocessed foods including vegetables can be unhealthy and need a variation.Originally posted by thinner View PostOn the contrary... the atkins diet induction includes only meat, eggs, chicken, fish etc. Butter, cream, mayo, and only 20 g of carbs that must come from non starch veggies. And please keep in mind - this is a 2002 DANDR specific board... not a general low carb board.

Re: question for a med professional
Go to your Dr. and get a professional opinion. No real Medical professional is going to risk being sued by giving out diet advice on a chat board with that limited of information. If one does you can bet they A) aren't a real medical professional or B) not one you should entrust your life/health to.
Common sense says if you need true medical advice, go see a real Dr.
