    Good morning all! I'm fairly new here. I have a couple questions. First off, when I first got on the program, almost 2 weeks Monday... I purchased bars and shakes just to see what they were all about. I really liked them and thought that they were a nice supplement or "legal" snack while transitioning. The first full week, I lost 8 pounds. I generally had one for an am snack and one for a dessert. I was satisfied all day long. After joining ADBB, I'm finding out that the Atkins bars, shakes are not suggested during Induction or at all. So this week, I replaced my bars with a healthy snack like 1oz cheese and some veggies. And I have to say, I'm just not as satisfied like I was with the bars and shakes and I end up going back for more snacks....more cheese more veggies which isn't good. I'm not sure what to do here. LA Weightloss a few years ago and lost about 40 pounds using their bars and it was the same concept. Any snack suggestions out there? Anyone still doing bars and shakes even though they are forbidden?

    Second issue, I found out yesterday that I have sleep apnea. I went for a study because my ENT suggested it. I had been feeling tired and sluggish with the weight I was putting on but I had no idea it was this bad. This is seriously depressing news. I want to know if anyone has apnea and on the machine and been able to get off of it with weight loss. It's depressing and motivational all at the same time. I'm only 27 years old...married for almost 3 years. Sleeping with that machine is NOT sexy lol.

    When I snack I find I need something more than veggies and cheese. My snacks usually consist of sliced meat dipped in mayo and a 1oz piece of cheese. Adding the mayo seems to help me a lot. If I do snack on veggies it is with the meat and mayo combo and they are dipped in dressing. I like to snack on cucumbers and dressing as a snack because it gives me a sense of chips and dip. I get the crunch I am looking for.

      I would not say they are forbidden just like that. The shakes may be legal. They are very sweet so for someone like me they do not work at all. I prefer to make my own shakes so I can control the sugar content better. I think many people do stall with these.
      The bars contain ingredients that are not legal on induction so we incourage people to stay away but Atkins did allow them.

      It is interesting that you mention LA plan because Atkins should really be the opposite of that plan. We should eat whole foods and a lot of vegetables and drink clean water and be healthy. Not stuff ourselves with processed soybased frankenfoods. Not sure that we can really sustain our weightloss if we do not learn how to eat real clean foods.

        i'm no doctor, but i know 2 people that had sleep apnea and after losing the weight had it disappear.


        they talk about that on the Biggest Loser all the time too. Most of the contestants have sleep apnea when they start and it's gone by the time they finish.

          How much did you keep off?

          What did you learn about maintaining weight loss?

          What did you learn about your relationship with food?

            I took you advice Aprile . I usually have cooked chicken breast in the fridge for salads, meals etc. I made a snack baggie with chicken and cucumbers. We'll see how that goes. Thanks for the tip.

            Thanks Liv. I was on the LA Purple plan and it was pretty carb restricted other than the bars. 5 fruits/veggies. I could have very little starch and it needed to be measured. It was a strict plan and I did well but my food was so bland. I love Atkins because I don't feel that I'm missing much and my food taste good. Most importantly I'm seeing results. It's just a matter of getting though to the next meal. I'm eating enough during my meal b/c it sustains me for quite a while. I guess I just have to find the right snack to get me through to the next meal.

              Yes keep experimenting and try new recipes once in a while. Make sure you eat a lot of veggies and find good ways to cook them.
              The rule on atkins is that most of your carbs should come from veggies.

              If you really need snacks go ahead and have them. But think about whether you are getting enough fats and calories at your meals to sustain you so maybe you do not need to snack. (But I snack some - if I feel hungry)

              Also make sure snacks are not rewards and past times. What I am saying is do not eat from habit. Try to make the real appetite be your guide. Trust your stomach not your brain.

                I learned a lot actually. There was a RN and dietician on staff that were very helpful. I didn't start putting the weight back on until last year when my father was diagnosed with cancer. I was given the tools but I didn't follow them when I was in a time of stress. Not many people do. There's pros and cons to all diets/WOE but so far Atkins has been pretty good for me. I was diagnosed PCOS and this is the best way to go.

                  Good luck on your journey. I think it's different for everyone. Dh is one that could probably have shakes and bars daily and still lose weight. He's had them in the past on other plans and no problems. I on the other hand can look at one and gain 2lbs. LOL

                  For me a lot of it has to do with me being so short. I can't get away with things a lot of taller people can. I get to the point in any plan where I have to start counting calories and getting strict. I can't just eat select foods until I'm satisfied and lose. Everyone is different.
