  • Am I missing something?

    I have been on the induction 2 weeks today and I have lost nothing. And in fact gained 3 lbs. I feel bloated and fat! This is my typical menu:
    Breakfast: I have 2 eggs (scrambled in olive oil and butter) with about an ounce or less of cheese, tblsp cream (to make the creamier),1 slice of bacon a cup of coffee with a tblsp of heavy cream and 2 packets of truvia.

    Lunch: about a cup of steamed broccoli with butter and olive oil and about 7 oz of meat (cheese burgerw/1 bacon and an ounce of cheese)

    Dinner: My favorite is fried chicken (about 8 oz) (smashed pork rinds for coating and eggs for dipping) cooked in olive oil. A cup of cauliflower mashed with a tblsp of cream and butter. With a half cup-1 cup of broccoli steamed.

    Dessert: Chocolate mousse I make a big batch with 1 cup heavy cream, unsweetened cocoa powder unsweetened bakers chocolate, butter,small 1/2 stick of cream cheese and 6 packs of truvia and beat. I put them in 1/2 cup dishes and have one each night!
    It is so good but I am afraid it might be the culprit. i got the recipe in the induction phase part.
    The cream is heavy cream with no sugar or carbs in the ingredients or nutritional value.
    Any advice is appreciated. If this isn't gonna work I need to move on and try something else. But I hate doing that as i am never hungry or have cravings. And besides horrible constipation I feel great! I dread going back to the old way of eating less and being hungry and craving food all the time!

    The limit of cream of 2-3 Tbs. per day.

    Cream has carbs, too, regardless of what the label says ... it has 6.6 net carbs per cup, so that's 0.4125 net carbs per Tbs.

    Seems as if you've having a lot of meat ...

    I would get rid of the dessert ... it puts your over the limit of cream, and probably over the limit of sweetener per day.

    And neither cocoa or unsweetened chocolate are allowed on Induction.

    If you're using Fitday, how many calories are you eating? And how many net carbs? How many net carbs from vegetables?

        If you are constipated you may not lose so you will need to move something. Exercise, water and fiber works for constipation. If nothing is going to move you may have to help in along.


        And you need to tweak.
        First recommendation would be to sign up with FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal and keep an eye on your carbs. Remember most of your carbs should come from vegetable (your carbs are coming from cream, cheese, sweetener and more cream it is looking like)

        You are also probably somewhat heavy on calories with that much protein and that much cream in there. so check that

        I also suggest cutting out cream totally, cutting down on sweetener,

          Thanks i figured it tasted too good to be working right! I'll check out fit day! I take metamucil and allot of water but it doesn't help!

            Hi Jode2U. Although legal, pork rinds can cause problems. First, you have to make sure you are using the non-flavored pork rinds as the others usually have sugar in them.

            Second, even the plain pork rinds are loaded with salt. This can cause you to retain fluids and not lose weight. I cut the pork rinds out and saw my weight loss really start rolling.

            I think your real problem is your dessert. Cut it out and see what happens. This way you can deal with a sweet tooth that you may have (not saying you do). Any chance you can give up your daily coffee?

              Hi Jody!

              Apart from what the others have mentioned already, I could not see any vegetables from the 'salad vegetable' list (of which you can have up to 2 if you are also choosing from the 'other vegetable' list. And you had 2 cups from that 'other' list instead of just one.

              Though this is less likely to be the main reason for adding weight, I thought I'd just mention it as we follow the rules From Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition (DANDR) here which are slightly different than on the Atkins.com website or the new Atkins book recently published, so any answere here might differ from what you are reading elsewhere.

              Another thing worth mentioning is that if you are female you will experience unexplained weight gains around that 'time of the month' so if that is the case you could see those pounds disappear in a while without changing anything at all.

              Though I feel it is probably all that cream making some of the problem

                Your menu looks really heavy on cream and sweetners. Cocoa can be used as a seasoning but not sure how much you are adding. Should be used in very small amounts like a tsp not as flavoring for cream cheese desserts.

                I use 3,000 mg of vitamin c and a 250mg magnesium pill if I get constipated. Works very well with no side effects like cramping etc. If you are taking fiber and you still aren't going it's just backing up in your system making things worse, you'll definitely put weight on with all that sitting in there.

                Cut out the sweets, get regular and takek the other advice here. I think you'll see the results you are looking for. Good luck

                  . . . If you are weighing both your body plus 'Mr Poo', Jody, that might explain your added pounds and after an 'evacuation' you might get a surprise from your scales.

                    Thanks or all your advice! I'm gonna go off the dessertYes I do have a sweet tooth (especially at night after dinner) and try to be stricter! My husband of course is melting away and showing off! Makes this allot harder!

                    I don't eat salad allot because I only like ranch and if I'm sensitive to the cream the dressing would be bad i would think! I make my own dressing with the cream and mayo.

                    I also take magnesium/ calcium/ zinc combo and fish oil with metamucill. Nothing seems to help!

                    I'm hoping this week will get better! Thanks for the help!
                    Oh and is taking Advil ok? I wouldn't be surprised it's full of sugar!

                      Check out the Salad Veggies list again...it isn't just salad! If you don't have DANDR02, you can find the list of veggies in the stickies on this board. Sauteed mushrooms and/or peppers count as "salad" veggies.So does Jicama (search for it on these boards, you'll find tons of cool recipes)

                      Make sure that your Metamucil doesn't have added sugar - some of them do - it will be listed on the label. I use the Metamucil Psyllium Husk Caspules. Also, the more fibre you take, the more water you need to drink so you don't form a 'plug'

                      Does Advil have caffeine in it? Again, sugar or caffeine will be listed on the label.

                          Advil should only be ibuprofen. But they do use fillers to form the tablets. From my experience this shouldn't be a problem if you only take it in tablet form and only twice per day. Some NSAIDS have been known to make "some" people retain water. You can switch to acetaminophen (Tylenol). I also am switching things around myself since I haven't been eating my veggies like I should and have cream every day. So it's something to look at. I didn't know that 15 oz of meat was too much for a day ...(embarrassed) Because I know I eat prob 7 to 8 oz at lunch and dinner myself. So another thing for me to struggle with. Good luck and don't give up. (telling myself the same thing here)

                            im allergic to whipping cream any ammount seem'd to make my weight loss stall so i cut it out completely

                            make sure your coffee is decaf cause caffine isnt allowed

                            your bacon make sure its the kind that has no sugar added but it may be hard to find

                            try sticking to foods that you 100% know are good to eat eggs , butter, broccoli, meat foods like that and everything els you need to read the ingridients

                            also all cheese has lactose sugars but its so low of a amount its labeld as 0 but still thats why its limmited and i remember i could only have cheese with one of my meals per day if i ate cheese with 2 meals my weight loss may have stalled

                              I cut out my dessert (so sad) and I only had a pinch of cheese on my eggs. I also measured out my cream (2-3tblsp) and I realized i was having allot more then i thought! And had only one packet of sweetener.
                              I have never been able to find bacon with no sugar. I did see one at Costco but it was almost 99% fatty looking. I like my bacon with a little meat strung through it!

                              I also thought i read that a small amount of caffeine was ok. I was just having one 6oz cup in the morning. The rest of the day i just drink water! I've never been a caffeine addict. I guess ill buy some without tomorrow!
