    Hello all :P

    I am not a big fan of water. For many years, I actually get nauseated if I drink too much water at a time. Even the though of drinking water makes me feel a bit ill right now ha!

    I have found at a local food store a water drink called Aquafina "flavor splash".

    This is a water drink that comes in 16 oz bottles, and is flavored with Sucralose.

    I have a few questions....

    1) The 8x8 rule for water. Does a flavored water drink such as this count as part of that 8x8? Am I able to just drink all my 8x8 with this flavored water?

    2) If this type of drink is okay as part of the 8x8, does the fact that it is flavored with Sucralose matter as part of the sweetener servings you are allowed to have per day? If yes, how can I figure out the serving size from the drink compared to what I am allowed to have daily?

    Can anyone help me with the amount of sucralose in a serving and how that translates with how much I can take in per day?

    For me, this is the perfect drink as I can drink this water all day long without feeling bloated, sick or just plain 'ick' as I would by drinking unsweetened water.

    Any suggestions on this matter that I may have missed or that may help me?

    Hi,
    The daily minimum is 64 oz of pure water, with no additives sweeteners/flavors, etc.


    Someone please correct me if I am wrong....

    I believe those drinks are ok, in addition to your water, but each 16 oz bottle is 2 servings. So 1.5 bottles are 3 servings. You are limited to 3 servings of sweetener per day. So your daily limit would be 1.5 bottles, and no other sweetener used for anything else.

        Yeah, well, regular water makes me go 'bleh' I haven't liked water my whole life...

        I have the 16.9 oz bottles.

        Okay, in addition to the water questions I have, another one would be, what kind of snacks can I carry around with me? At the moment I carry Polio Mozzarella String Cheeses with me, but I make sure I don't eat more than 4oz a day of the stuff. My other friend brings around walnuts with him, but the diet says no nuts.

        What kind of snacks are okay that you guys have found?

          Celery sticksw/cream cheese, sliced up green or red peppers, sliced jicama & hard boiled eggs w/mayo.

            I personally don't really have a "snack" category. But that's just me. Usually not hungry between meals any more. But...if I am hungry, I eat whatever is on the Acceptable food list. I may heat up a little dinner leftover, or have some egg salad, chicken salad. Some olives. Or some of the veggies, and make a little dip to go with it.

            Here are some wonderful recipes to explore that will help open up your food choices so that you don't feel like you have to eat plain meats and veggies. You can put them all together for great meals and even for your snacks.

            And after a while, your hunger will diminish so much, you won't be looking for snacks anymore. REALLY!

            This makes a good "chip" for dips and other foods like egg salad.
            My experience--made at least 1-2 days ahead for best crispness and do not store in a bag or container, leave it in the open air, or they will not stay crisp, and use full fat cheese, not low or 0 fat.

            Another recipe good to make and divide into portions and freeze for a quick meal to save time.

                No.

                No.

                While 8x8 is the minimum, it's not necessarily the maximum ... nor the amount of water your body needs. Many find that drinking 1/2 their current weight in ounces of water (and sadly for you, only water is water) works best.

                Also, since the limit is 3 servings of sweetener per day, you would be only able to have 3x8 of the flavored water.

                Nuts aren't allowed in Induction. They are added back in OWL.

                Make sure you read the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002), so you understand what's involved.

                  Would it help if you added lemon slices to your water. Or perhaps used carbonated water. I really do not think it is great to drink sweetened water on this diet. Sweetened is what we are trying to get away from. It is what gave us these issues in the first place.

                          Be careful of the flavored waters, some of them contain a lot of salt. My mom was in the hospital a couple of weeks ago with some chest pain and wanted me to bring her a couple of bottles. Since she is diabetic as well I checked out the label and it had 50mg of salt. She would drink 6 of these a day. After a couple of days without them her ankle swelling went down. I looked at the label of Aquafina flavor splash and it has 65grams per 8oz.

                            How long has your friend been on induction and how much more weight has he got left to lose? It might be time for him to read further into the later chapters to discover how to start adding carbs and different foods if he is getting close to goal weight.

                            Anyway, you are not here for advice on how a friend should be following the Atkins way of eating, but for yourself

                            As has been said, sweeteners are limited on Atkins to 3 servings which equates to 24 fluid ounces of diet flavoured/sweetened drinks. (And that is assuming you have no sweetened foods as well)

                            So you need to find a way to get some unsweetened water down and maybe 'treat' yourself to the flavoured stuff after drinking your minimum 64 fluid ounces of ordinary water.

                            You can add a slice of lemon or lime or even cucumber to the water which changes the flavour slightly, or try it at different temperatures to see how your body prefers it. Some find room temp or even warm water is easier to get down - I prefer it iced or at least cold.

                            I carry around a sports-top refillable water bottle and take a sip every now and again and get down a fair amount without really noticing how much I am drinking.
                            If your tap water is foul then maybe investing in a filter jug would help it taste better. We are lucky in UK as most of our 'mains' tap water is palatable (to me) so I don't spend on bottled water a lot.

                            When online I tend to take a sip each time I am waiting for the screen to refresh and am amazed at how often I need to refill the bottle

                              Just for your info, nut are allowed at Rung 3, just not allowed on Induction. So you can eat them if you want when you reach that Level.
                              If your friend is eating them, he is either on Level 3, or just not following the Induction rules.

                              But this is your weight loss, so you need to stick to it.
                              Give some of those recipes a try, and think of leftovers when you need a quick snack as I mentioned earlier.
