Re: Help me with the math please

Just out of curiosity, what are you going to be using it on?

I tried a sugar free product and used it on my pork rind waffles it was really yummy, but it caused me to stall. It had only 1 net carb minus sugar alcohols and I was only using 1 tablespoon (1/2 serving and didn't even use it all) dipped my waffle in like a french fry.

I am on extended induction so my rules are the same as yours. I'm sure some people could get away with it but since you are just starting(?) you don't want to stall and become frustrated thinking Atkins isn't working for you.

Atkins works best if you don't tweak the induction rules and add things back as the OWL carb ladder indicates. Induction also is to help stop sugary cravings and taking sugary flavored things at this time could throw that all off as well.

Also those artifical sweeteners are limited to 3 per day.

I would avoid it for now and use melted butter instead.

So the math goes like this

Total Carb - sugar alcohol carbs = net carbs
Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol. So therefore
      12-11=1
      It has one net carb

However though it was initially thought that carbs in sugar alcohols are not metabolized some people may metabolize them so it it is sometimes suggested to count half of them just in case - if you did that this would have 6.5 carb. So as Melody says just be careful.

Thanks Melody but I am not that new here I had already lost 50 lbs+ you can see one of my before and after photo
          here..

I only eat the syrup with my eggs and bacon ( no cream) for some reason I enjoy it better than tomatoes. I have been using another brand of syrup and just using the induction allowed per day and have yet to stall but I only use it for my eggs and bacon

I am still doing my extended induction thing but I am studying the book for the next phase once I am ready and prepared I will make my next step.

Thanks but i would not be using the entire 1/2 cup that would be too much..so how many spoonful do I need to use to keep it induction friendly?

Re: Help me with the math please

                  Awesome pictures~ you go girl!
Never tried syrup with eggs. Will have to try it out when I get past this stage.

I don't know what a safe dose of syrup would be for you. See what the net carb per serving your current syrup has and make the calculation.

1/4 cup is 4 tablespoons or 60 mls so divide by 4. If one tablespoon could get you by it would be
                  1 Tablespoon is = to 15 milliliters

                  3 total carbs
                  2.75 sugar alcohols/sorbitol
                  net carbs would be 0.25

But if you count half like liv suggests 6.5 / 4= 1.625 net carbs

also check the sugar alcohol in that brand and compare it to your other brand cuase different sugarfree syrups use different ones and some folk are fine with one and not with another

it is Maple Grove Farms Sugar Free sweetened by splenda

                      Total Fat 0g

I bought this product. I got sucked in by the big Splenda logo on the front and just presumed that it was like Davinci/Torani SF syrups only maple flavored.

I was majorly POd when I went to use it and read the label and saw all the carbs and sorbitol. I am somewhat skeptical about sugar alcohols not counting but that's just me. Had I read the label like I do with everything else I buy, I never would have bought this product.

That said I have used it. I only use 1 TBS though as a drizzle over my breakfast pork chop and pumpkin mash when I have this meal. But I always wonder if the math is really true or am I really getting more carbs.

Yes, I suppose I should have chucked it and bought a maple syrup that really does only contain Splenda. I guess I'm too cheap. Fortunately, Mr. Ski uses a lot of it in his oatmeal and I can't wait for that bottle to be gone.

Oh I am so glad i found some other people who like syrup on their eggs!!!! My family thinks I'm weird! I love syrup on everything!!! I have this sugar free made by "Spring tree". I probably use about a tsp. I hope it isn't a culprit cause it's so hard to eat my eggs without it! It can get a tad gaggy! I have my own chickens and the eggs are very dark and rich so the syrup helps! I was using the SF even before atkins. I don't like things too sweet!
