  • Looking for a conversion ratio, please....

Does anyone know the conversion ratio of Liquid Splenda vs. Granular Splenda?

ensive How do I explain this.....I mean, if a recipe calls for 2 drops of Liquid Splenda for example, how much would that be in Granular form?

I have this Granular now, 2 whole danged bags of it, and I'm intending on changing to Liquid, or at least buying some liquid to use when I can, other than baking..but in the meantime I need to convert it to try a few recipes that I have that only give Liquid measurements.

I'd also be interested in knowing what sweetners others use here, other than Splenda. I use sweetners rarely at all, but I envy the fact that others can use a sweetner in a recipe for ZERO carbs, something that I cannot do with this Granular. :anger

    Thanks in advance.

Im not familiar with the liquid. Does it not have a nutrition chart on the back? Maybe that will give you more answers.

    Sorry I couldnt help.

I'm not sure about your other question - never used the liquid before...

but others use a natural sweetener called Stevia. This is something one would need to get used to as it has a bitter taste to it - or at least to me it does.

Maybe this will help. There are different "liquid splendas" that people talk about. I have the one from TrishZ (ordered online). It says that 1/4 tsp. (25 drops) equals 1 cup sugar, or 1 drop equals 1.5 tsp sugar. I also have one called Fiberfit (ordered from Netrition) that's referred to as liquid splenda. It says that 1 tsp. equals the sweetness of 4 tsp. of sugar. So it's a little less concentrated. Apparently, there is a newer, more concentrated formula of Fiberfit that has just come out. I guess it's wise to ask what liquid splenda someone is referring to when trying their recipe.

Thanks Redhead, you hit on the very two sweetners that are referred to in these recipes.

So, there really IS no such thing as "Liquid Splenda"? They're really referring to Fiberfit and TrishZ?

I've never really google'd it to see, I assumed they really did mean Splenda.

Is Fiberfit and TrishZ just as good for you as Splenda is, or are they part sugar?

sweetzfree.com has a liquid "Splenda" and it too says that 25 of its drops in its container are the same as a cup of Sugar.

the chemical is called sulucrose and is the stuff SPlenda is. SPLENDA is the brand name.

Yeah, 2Big's right, the TrishZ stuff is sweetzfree. Both of them are different concentrations of sucralose.

Red, can I please ask which one you prefer, as far as taste, after-taste, or for any other reason?

Do you order your "TrishZ" stuff from sweetzfree.com, or is TrishZ a person/poster that sells this stuff?

Also, 2big, what sweetener do you prefer to use please?

It was my understanding that we were to avoid anything with the word "sucralose" in it. :confused

OK, 2big, or Red, please pass on your infinite wisdom. :sadblinky

I have spent the past hour and a half researching the various sweeteners, from Sweetzfree, http://sweetzfree.com/index.htm .... Erythritol, http://www23.netrition.com/now_erythritol_page.html .... Xylitol, http://www23.netrition.com/now_xylitol_page.html ...and then there is Fiberfit,
http://www23.netrition.com/nutrageni...rfit_page.html ...and I haven't even entered into the world of Stevia yet.

I'm becoming extremely frustrated at my own apparent ignorance. :anger

I realize that Erythritol and Xylitol and Splenda are the same as far as all granular. First question is, how are these two different, and in your opinions, which one is better?

The Sweetfree, Fiberfit and Stevia are all liquid....but again, which one is "better", both in taste and better for you as far as sugar alcohols or anything else that you know of? Also, isn't there a liquid form of Xylitol as well as the granular link that I posted above?

Third question is, why do I notice that in many, many recipes, a combination of BOTH sweeteners are used, liquid AND granular? What's the purpose of this, please?

Here is one example where both sweeteners are used:

                    Spongebob's flaxmeal bread YUMMY!!

                    pre-heat oven to 350F
                    dry

1/4c nuts I ground up almonds 1 carbs 175 cal
                    1/2c Splenda (box,) ** I sub 1 teas liquid splenda & 4T (1/4cup)Eryithol
                    1tsp baking powder 1 carb 0 cal
                    1tsp baking soda 0 carb 0 cal
                    *optional - I added 4 teasp of cinnamon 2.35 carb 24 cal

                    wet
                    ===
                    5 eggs (beaten) I used 4 jumbo 2.4 carbs 400 cal
                    8T sf syrup w/Splenda I used sf vanilla 0 0
                    5T vegetable oil I use canola 0 600

mix together all dry ingredients in a bowl, then in a separate bowl, mix all wet ingredients. Fold dry ingredients into wet and mix well (don't beat like crazy, but be sure it's mixed well or the eggs do funny things!).

Immediately transfer batter to Pam/etc-sprayed loaf pan

Bake at 350F for 35- 40 min. or until it passes the knife/toothpick/etc. test. When I do 35 minutes the knife comes out clean but I have to nuke the center pieces to finish cooking them…so I now cook it 40 minutes.

Remove from pan immediately and cool before slicing. Cut into 4 equal sections....(total 4 pieces) then cut each of those 4 sections into 4 pieces each.....(total 16 pieces) then cut those pieces in half....cutting across the middle...(total 32 pieces)

Store these in the refrigerator - and I freeze them with a paper towel and zip lock bag. I will put into micro wave and nuke for a bit and then have with cream cheese - although they are great cold, too!

Well, nevermind answering #3, because I "THINK" ? I just figured that one out for myself. I'm assuming that both were used to cut down on the Carb content, and yet some of the granular tossed in to retain the consistency of the flaxbread, so that it didn't get too watery using ALL liquid sweetener, right?

Anyway, please if you will, answer questions 1 & 2; I'm sorry to be so "thick", but I really would like to do the best that I can on this WOE, and as a former long-time severe hypoglycemic before I began Atkins, sugar is an issue with me that I don't want the symptoms to return by my using the wrong stuff.

Secondary is the fact that I'm concerned about creating "stalls" with the sugar alcohols or anything else that is "bad" in these sweeteners.

Please give me your opinions on which are best to use? Thank you so much for taking the time to answer this post, and for sharing your wisdom with me. :hug

EDITED TO ADD question #4: I assume that we should all have both granular AND liquid on hand, as the uses are different?
Please explain this one. (I'm sorry to be such a pain. :sadblinky )

Please forgive me for I've made a mistake. I said this -

I have the one from TrishZ (ordered online). It says that 1/4 tsp. (25 drops) equals 1 cup sugar, or 1 drop equals 1.5 tsp sugar.
The one associated with the person TrishZ is a 0 Carb syrup concentrate that is equal to 32 cups of sugar per 8 oz. bottle. It's been a long time since I ordered my Sweetzfree and I'd made the wrong assocation in my mind. So, like 2Big said, Sweetzfree is the one that's 1/4 tsp. = 1 cup sugar sweetness, as I said earlier.

The reason it's good to mix sweeteners is that there's some kind of "synergy" when you put two or more of them together. They may boost the sweetness while canceling out any aftertastes one or the other may have. Sweetzfree and Erythritol work very well together in most things. I like that I don't get gastric distress with Erythritol either. I haven't worked with Stevia, but many people like to throw in some of that too. It's just one of those things you have to fiddle around with in your own recipes until you get them the way you like. I hope this helps.
