Re: What are you having for Easter?

I'm thinking of having our traditional Thanksgiving dinner for Easter.

Ever since our kids moved away, they go to their in-laws for holiday dinners. About 6 years ago, we started our "Empty Nest Holiday Tradition", Alaskin King Crab legs and T-Bone Steaks, the veggies can be whatever!

Now, the kids ask us what we are having BEFORE they accept invitations to the inlaws. We usually invite them over on a different weekend (and let them cook) and still do our private dinner!

There are few foods in this world quite as yummy as AKC legs...drowning in melted butter, chased by a slab of steak merinated in it's own fat as it rides the old grill!.

I'm getting hungry just describing it!

Re: What are you having for Easter?

Funny, when I was growing up, the idea was to make hardboiled eggs, color the shells, put them out for the family kids to find and then make deviled eggs out of them for dinner (minus the ones us kids ate) Too bad we had to let all that chocolate get in the way.

This week eggs go on sale at Krogers, 10 for $10 (dozens). It wouldn't take but a few minutes to hardboil 5 dozen, hide them and find them (heck with the kids, they can get their own eggs!

I do love a good HB egg!

Re: What are you having for Easter?

Easter is going to be so difficult!! We always have a turkey, a ham (smothered in pineapple and cherry juices), mashed potatoes, candied yams, cole slaw (my family makes cole slaw with sugar), green beans cooked with ham and potatoes, homemade mac and cheese, deviled eggs (again, made with sugar), cranberry sauce, stuffing, rolls, plus the candy and desserts!!! This is going to be a true test for me. I have been craving this past week too.. ugh!!! My mom asked me to bring the cole slaw and candied yams (my two least favorite items. Had she asked me to bring the mac and cheese or the deviled eggs I would have been a gonner!!). I asked her if we could use splenda in some things, instead of sugar, but she said we aren't changing things for my diet and it's not fair to everyone else who likes the food made the way our family has cooked things for30+ yrs. I just thought, "Yep... and that's why everyone in our family is obese, has Diabetes, and heart disease!!!" So, I guess I'm just having Turkey!!

Sorry to hear your family isn't too supportive. Maybe they will come around in time as they see you losing.
                      You are not alone.

But I am surprised at the deviled eggs. I never saw a recipe asking for sugar to be added to the ingredients.

So have a good Easter, maybe you can bring one more thing to share that is Atkins friendly, but not one of the required foods. Surprise them.
(Pre Atkins)--My family used to go crazy if I ever suggested changing things and adding some new ideas for the holidays. But I just brought new things in my own and eventually they got used to the idea, and now we plan new menus for each holiday weeks in advance together. Except for the times we go out to a brunch instead.

What do you think would happen if you did something for yourself and brought a dish that you would like to eat?

Well, this year dh is gone, my two teenagers are (sigh) going to play paintball with a friend and they will be gone all day and eating dinner out. Don't ask why I agreed to that. So, it is my youngest (9) and me alone. I am doing roast chicken and will roast some potatoes and carrots with it, deviled eggs, probably salad and I am making Lemon souffle cheesecake.

My family all lives in another state so I don't see them often but I do think my family has come around to the way I eat. My in-laws on the other hand...they make a slight attempt to accomodate me (I never ask them to) but then seem mad if I bring my own food. Oh well, I'm at the point where I do what is best for me and if someone doesn't like it, that is their problem to deal with.

Unfortunately my family well some of them aren't very loving..in fact the last time I was there I was at my 60th pound loss.. and no one even noticed..they all knew I was on this wol..but its cool I know its working for me..so for me to bring something for myself would only add fuel to the fire..Then comes arguments... But this time I am now at a 100 pound loss and I bought myself a brand new tighter fitting dress!!! If they notice this time I am going to be a walking advertisement for this wol...

That is a shame. Kudos to you for not letting them get you down and sabotage your fantastic weight loss.

They noticed the 60#s and most certainly they will notice the new, hot 100# lighter you. Might be jealousy or might be that you did it your own way...who knows. Just remember, you are the winner here (and the one doing the happy dance! )
