    Hi, I've been away awhile. I had lost a lot of weight, then I went off of this way of life, and gained it back plus an extra 40 pounds

    I realize now, that this is something I need to do for life. I know that if I am allowed to eat anything I want, I choose poorly. Without Atkins, I choose sugar and white flour over vegetables. I have crazy blood sugar problems, feel horrible, and gain weight at an alarming rate.

    I didn't even think I could come back.....but then something wonderful happened. I quit drinking coffee. I noticed that my blood sugar started stabilizing, I was feeling somewhat better. So, then I felt strong enough to come back to Atkins, and it's been great. I have no more sugar/chocolate cravings, no more blood sugar issues, and I don't feel the need to eat constantly to bring up my blood sugar. What have I learned? I learned that Dr. Atkins knew what he was talking about. He said that we should kick our caffeine habit, and he was right!!! When I lost weight on Atkins before, I still had the blood sugar issues......not this time....no more. Quitting coffee was the trick. I already knew that sugar free soda was a problem, but I didn't know coffee was that powerful. I won't touch either anymore.

    I also learned that I can live without coffee. It's a drug, and we don't need it to wake up in the morning.

    I can't get over how GREAT I feel!!! I know I can lose this weight, and it won't be nearly as hard as the first time thanks to kicking coffee!!! I've been back for about a week and a half and have dropped an initial 13 pounds!!!

    I'm so happy about being back and I am looking forward to getting to know all the new friends on Atkins, as well as seeing my old friends again!

    So, if your still drinking coffee, and are having sugar/chocolate cravings and blood sugar issues, try kicking coffee to the curb, maybe it will help you like it did me!

    I have a similar problem with coffee. Coffee makes me feel hungry. I only learned this too when I cut it out in induction. It has been a very valuable lesson for me. i am much better of controlling myself now.

      Liv...you hit it on the nailhead....coffee makes me feel hungry all of the time...Ditto! Me too!!!

          Thats great..however I do not think I can give up my morning cup of coffee...I have it right after my morning weigh in.. its like my ritual...for me it curbs my appetite.. go figure..

            I think we are different in this area. So something else may work for others. It is the same with my DH if he drinks coffee he loses his appetite often. I can eat the whole content of the fridge

              Yea, it is funny how coffee affects us all differently. Like liv...it's a trigger for me and I can eat anything that doesn't eat me first after just one cup...

              However, I'm Ok for an hour after I drink it. I think it raises my Blood sugar, then after that hour, it dumps the blood sugar and leaves me feeling like I'm starving. I was drinking 3 cups a day, so, it caused me to eat extra calories 3 times a day. Not good!

                ...I wish I had learned it in Induction (like Liv did) the first time I started this WOL (in 2004)........ I learned it by accident about a month ago!!! I lost 6 years of possible wisdom!!!! Note to self.....Dr. Atkins knew what he was talking about!!!!!!

                  I am the same way. If I drink coffee other than decaf I lose my appetite.

                    I've been drinking decaf for years but it wasn't until a post by Liv that I realized that my one little cup of decaf coffee in the morning was making me hungry. And I don't use sweetener in it either.

                    For years I blamed my steel cut oats. And I was NEVER able to have the "typical" danish pastry or donut for breakfast. But my foods on Atkins should not have brought about these hunger pangs so shortly after eating. So I experimented and when I did not have my decaf coffee...no hunger afterward.

                    I love coffee and still have my one small cup most mornings. Have to say when I do, I can't wait for lunchtime to roll around. How silly is that???

                      Liv.. it really curbs my appetite, like your DH..I find myself not being hungry for hours.... unfortunately for me I find that Mayo... not only do I gain from it.. but I start wanting like munchy salty crunchy food...lol go figure....By the way, I am not really a computer person, but what does DH mean??

                        what does it do to your insulin and fat storage?

                        Coffee doesn't give me cravings so that isn't an issue for me. .

                        But---Does it cause insulin spikes and prevent fat loss in that way? Or is it a non-problem if it doesn't cause cravings?
