  • Confusing carb count !!??!!

    Hello Everybody in Atkinsland,

    I am just wondering if I am breaking the rules of induction....I am currently drinking a soft drink which contains " Fruit and vegetable extracts (Apple, carrot, hibiscus) "

    But the nutrition label states : Per 100ml

    Energy = 2kcal
    Protein = Trace
    Carbohydrate = Trace ( Of which sugars = Trace )
    Fat = Trace
    Fibre = Trace
    Sodium = 0.05g ( Equivalent as salt 0.1g )

    So do the Fruit and vegetable extracts acually count as carbs or are they actually considered as Fruit and Veg ?

    Many thanks

    Skieferin

    I wouldn't drink it ... because those ingredients aren't allowed on Induction and because it's not water and doesn't count as water.

      atkins induction is about more then just keeping our carbs below the 20 gram max.
      if you are doing the 2002 DANDR version you also need to eat only the foods listed on the acceptable foods lists.

      if you are doing the 1992 DANDR then you could use a gram counter to eat anything you want fo be below 20 grams but since Dr Atkins changed that rule for the 2002 version it leads me to believe folk didn't do well getting healthy and losing weight following their own food choices.

      you can drink your drink when you get to OWL rung 8 in a couple of months though.

        I'm not sure what you are asking. Fruits and veggies do contain carbs and you do need to count them no matter what rung you are on. You don't have unlimited fruits and veggies.

          When I asked do the fruit extracts, etc count as carbs..I meant can they be counted as actual carbs, given that the carb count is TRACE.And that I am allowed 20g of carbs per day.Or would they be counted as actual no allowed induction foods....Therefore they would have to be totally eliminated to stay within the rules of induction ?I lost 4lb on my first week, this coming monday 5th April I shall weigh myself again to see if I have continued to lose weight. If I have then I would say that the drink IS allowed and I will recommend it to others.However, if I have either stalled or gained weight then obviously this drink is NOT allowed on induction.I think it is as Dr.A says if you want a diet drink then ok, but if it affects your weight loss then diet drinks are a no no.

            When counting carb's it's easy to say well those don't count because they are such and such carb all carbs count if you are aiming at 20 carbs per day then stop at 20 carbs, I know it is hard to do but the results wil be worth it..

              Re: Confusing carb count !!??!!

              Sounds like sound advice, however, I am asking are these TRACE carbs still counted as zero carbs ( I am under the 20g per day )
              Or are the ingredients counted as NON induction foods - Therefore, stopping my induction process ?
              Because, when I look at other soft drinks they contain Caramel (Cola's) and I don't remember this being on the allowed food list.

                Re: Confusing carb count !!??!!

                I am guessing that if there is 2 calories in the product. Those calories are likely coming from carbs so I would count the carbs as 0.5.

                They are non induction foods.

                  No. Trace means there are some. Trace does not equal 0.

                    How many mL are you drinking? Because those traces amounts add up quickly when the serving size is only 100 mL.
