  • how high is your CCLL or CCLM

Since I've been a member I have seen very few folk who could eat more then 100 net grams of carbs even working out so I thought I'd post a poll to see how high ADBBers CCLL or CCLM or if you haven't found it yet your daily carb net grams total is.

and do you do the mandatory exercise part of your atkins? if so have you seen a dramatic increase in your carb tolerance as a result of your increased exercise

    Thanks in advance for participating

While I have been inconsistent with exercise lately , I did exercise consistently while losing the weight, and for a year after reaching goal. These are my observations...

    - exercising consistently does not raise my carb tolerance

    - even my CCLM number is pretty ambiguous.... meaning, I've determined that the number can vary wildly, depending upon the quality of the carb. If I eat veggies for net carbs, I can eat up to 40. If I try eating Rung 2 and higher (other than flax or raw almonds), my number goes down. But this is clearly from an intolerance to most foods other than veggies and meat (as in beef, fowl, pork, and seafood), rather than number of carbs.

    - Exercise doesn't make me "lose weight", per se. Exercise makes me feel better, and look a lot better... which is a good enough reason for me to do it. I could weigh 125, but if I'm not exercising, I'm soft. Blech!

Well, I'm still working on a final number but I picked the 51-60 with exercise category. I've been at this level for a while...my weight loss is slower than when it was lower. (I realize this is a Duh! statement. )

I can't report on my carb/exercise correlation as I have been pretty steady with the frequency and exertion levels of my exercise. Now that The Biggest Loser is on again I keep telling myself I need to kick up my workouts several notches. Spring is a good time for that...LOTS of yard work to do.

I also have at least 70#s more to lose. I'll be curious to see if my weight loss slows down more and more as I get thinner if I stay at the same exertion level.

Right now I am at 65 carbs and I do exercise some but not intensly due to my heart. I am still losing at a good pace and think I could up my carbs a bit more if I wanted to but really I eat well now and have no need.

I am around 35 with lots of exercise. Probably can have more if they are veggies mostly.

I rarely go above 30. But as far as the exercise goes I work 8 hrs a day on my feet. I sit for approximately 15 minutes at lunch. I go to the ball park with my kids about 3 or more times a week and walk a lot. So no formal exercise but I'm not sedentary either LOL. I am curious to know if I'll even be able to go higher with my carbs if I don't do "formal exercise ." It's a journey. I'm just glad the scale has moved finally. whew.

This statement fits me too. It may trigger a new thread because it is the part of OWL that is so frustrating to me. Having done Atkins before, I already know that my bad carbs are going to be most dairy, nuts, and fruit (why is it always the food groups you like most?). When I'm eating primarily meat and veggies, I can eat a fairly significant number of carbs, with or without exercise. Also, veggies don't kick off a carb binge (except for tomatoes) as most other carb foods do.

Nuts as in they cause you to over serve yourself or eating the allowed amount causes blood sugar issues?

The fruit and natural sugars in tomatoes can cause a cephalic response with those foods triggerring an insulin response based on your brain telling your body it tasted sweet and knows sugar is coming.

For a long time those of us who could get cravings from stuff like Splenda were told we were abnormal, but recent studies show that brain caused insulin release from even just thinking about eating a sweet food is normal.

In truth, probably the former option as I have never been able to eat a handful of nuts and call it quits. If I do indulge in nuts, I usually buy a bitter nut like walnuts which are somewhat self limiting as opposed to peanuts and almonds. If I ever get a jar of natural peanut butter, I may as well just add 5 pounds to the scale up front.

But thanks for the feedback on the other food items. It's nice to know I'm "normal" (or at least part of a larger group of "abnormals"!).

This describes me exactly. I exercise very regularly, it makes me feel wonderful regardless of how I look, and I can eat non-starchy veggies all day long, but, say, half a glass of alcohol bloats me up like a blimp.
