So I've never really been a fan of butter. But since being on this diet, I'm craving it. I open up the refrigerator to get a string cheese and would kill to just eat a spoon full of butter. Is this normal? Am i not eating enough of something to cause these cravings? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Butter cravings?
I see lots of people on here that say they like to eat plain butter, slather it on their met etc. I don't get it. I tried to cook my steak in it and thought it was awful. Not sure if its' a diet thing or not. Maybe your body wants more fat? Did you actually try a spoonful and see if you liked it, maybe it's just a mental craving it won't taste like you think it will.

Re: Butter cravings?
Miranda, I don't know what's up with you and butter. For me, I was so used to having to stay away from butter on those low fat/low cal/low taste diets that when I started Atkins I had butter at every meal. It was so wonderful. OMG...my boring veggies with that fake butter spray were now glistening with buttery goodness.
After I while I even started to become a butter snob. I buy whatever is on sale for cooking/baking but for eating you just can't beat Kerrygold Irish butter.
Maybe you are just liking butter now?

Re: Butter cravings?
I am actually eating it. Like taking the stick and just nibbling on it lol... I know that sounds disgusting, but it just taste sooooooooo good. I've only done that once, but if I'm using it while I'm cooking I just pop little pieces into my mouth. But since it's allowed and I'm not constantly eating it, its not going to hurt me?

Re: Butter cravings?
I really like my butter as well. Like others, I was use to cutting it out of my diet before. Now that I can have it, its grown on me. I think one of the reasons I like it so much is because it taste sweet to me and I have cut all of the sweets out of my diet except for another craving.....the occasional tablespoon of frozen cool-whip.sigpic

Re: Butter cravings?
I learned early on that Atkins was a way to change behaviors as well as the way we eat. I like butter as much as anyone and like it on veggies and cook my eggs in it with a little bit of EVOO, but I try not to succumb to cravings whether an acceptable food or a illegal food. I think that is why Dr. Atkins called this a "food plan". It is a plan. It isn't eating at will, especially when you are questioning a craving you are having.
Blessings for good health.

Re: Butter cravings?
I'm a butter eater! I confess ( and have confessed several times. Ain't no "I can't believe it's not butter" in my house.
I do claim to be a tad better than eating the stick, at least I cut off a pat and eat it off my knife!

Hard to say without a menu... If you want to post one, with quantities and net carbs, we'll take a look.Originally posted by mirandajaelle07 View PostAm i not eating enough of something to cause these cravings?
If you overeat on Atkins, you will stall or even gain weight... regardless of whether the excess calories come from butter, beef or cheese.Originally posted by mirandajaelle07 View Postsince it's allowed and I'm not constantly eating it, its not going to hurt me?"Get action. Re: Butter cravings?
i like eating unsalted butter plain its really good i eat this one with lactic cultures it taste alot better than the other store brands
but the one i want the most is organic pasture raised unsalted butter but thats not easy to get
when i first started eating unsalted butter i keept going to the fridge to get some it tasted so good but now im more normal and just mostly eat some of it plain when i get around to cooking a food with it
also i find if you mix butter with cod liver oil it gives a really nice energy boost for the day
