  • Flaxseed... cravings???

I fixed my first batch of flaxseed crackers yesterday.

    1 cup of ground flaxseed
    1/3 cup of parmesan cheese
    1/2 tsp of garlic powder
    1/2 tsp of salt
    3/4 cup of water

Mix together, roll into little balls and flatten on the baking sheet... bake 400 degrees for 15 mins.

Well, I made 22 balls, and since 1 cup of ground flaxseed has 16 TBLSP I figured I could have 1 at most 2 a day.

I put cream cheese on them like a cracker (it tastes more like a piece of toasted bread).... well, I finally went to bed wanting another one.... but refused..

First thing this morning I'm wanting another one. Although I know I can have it, just curious if "I SHOULD?"

Is it normal for the flaxseed to cause cravings, and does this mean that nuts will be a BIG problem for me (I know peanut butter and I are not good friends)...

    Thanks,
    Amanda

It is okay if it takes me a little longer to get there, besides this is where I'm going to stay forever and that is a really long time!!!

I would watch that. It is absolutely possible that flax seed may be an issue for you. So see how you do. I don't even want to write pb - that stuff is evil

It might be the combination of ingredients causing cravings too - like many things it will be a slow process of testing to see if you can narrow things down.

You know, it could be the cream cheese causing the cravings.

Another thought..... the first time I made flaxseed crackers in the microwave w/4 Tbs flax, I polished them off quickly. I did that the next 3 or 4 times, it was irresistible. Now I make them (sometimes w/sweetener ginger & cinnamon, sometimes with parmesan & herbs) I have a few crackers and easily walk away. For me I think it was more of a 'snacking frenzy' frame of mind. Now that I "know" that I can make them and have them, my mind seems to have relaxed, if that makes any sense.

              Re: Flaxseed... cravings???

Maybe you miss the crunch? I found myself eating more than one serving of flax bran muffins because the exterior crust was so divine, but I wasn't craving flax or bran per se.

Also you could be attracted to the novelty. Every time I try a new recipe, I eat a few servings of it, not because it makes me crave, because it's so tasty and different. But I find after the initial attraction, I can limit myself to one portion daily.

                Re: Flaxseed... cravings???

This is why I will not make flax anything, and doubt I will for a very, very long time.

The creations resemble bread/crackers so much, and bread is my biggest downfall.

I appreciate I'm still in Induction and technically breaking cravings, but I do believe bread will always be my nemesis. Potatoes I can live without for the rest of my life (if need be-- I know it's not necessary with Atkins) and same with, gasp, chocolate, alcohol, etc But bread products?! No way!

Flax muffins scare the heck out of me! Flax crackers are no better, really. One bite and I'm a gonner.

                  Re: Flaxseed... cravings???

I have learned that my craving actually stems from me wanting to eat whenever and whatever. So, instead, when I'm feeling that old craving, I plan carefully so I don't set myself up. I'm fully capable of overeating something healthy and plan friendly as well as junk. My weight loss means too much to me to set toss this all away.

that recipe sounds good, but I also have a weakness for bread products so I think it will be my down fall also. Maybe later i can try them out.
