glad you are enjoying your move to OWL. the dressing carbs do not count in your rung one carbs and need to come from you already allowed carbs so it is 4 net grams of induction veggies. you could add some tomatoes or other veggies to your lettuce to make your salad contain more vits and mionerals and get to that 5 net grams.

I have not used sauces of any kind in the last two weeks, I am adding the additional carbs from the dressing (which I guess would be rung 2 - dairy so I probably should not add it...I just finished my salad so I will count it today).
I really want to stick with the rule of only adding one veggie per week, that way I know if something just does not mesh with my plans. 3 cups of lettuce is actually a pretty nice size salad, and it tastes pretty good as well. I love it plain with just black pepper on top as well, so I will dump the dressing and just eat the greens.
Thanks,

Ok, guys I'm on the third Atkins Book but I've learned more from your replies than I could have ever learned from the book...I hope all newbies come to this vine because you answer all those questions I'm sure everybody has had...
I understand the rungs now. I will be on rung 1 for some time, mainly because I want to keep adding induction veggies (I did print off the list and in what order they should be added)
Thanks so much everybody...I am so comfortable in OWL...who knew!

Good to hear MM!!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies? Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
Dr Atkins put cateloupe and honeydew melons along with berries in the OWL 'power of 5' list, so I assume he meant we could eat them on rung 4.
I assume that as watermelon has a high GI (according to the list in DANDR it has a higher GI than pineapple) that it would be a higher rung fruit.
I know it always tastes much sweeter than the honeydew ones to me.

you ned to count your dressing in your total grams of carbs from those induction amount not as your new rung carbs was what i was saying so you need 5 net grams of veggies. you might be craving iceberg cause has potassium in it along with a few other vits. if you toss some of the dark green leaf lettuces in there you will get some vit A and calcium too and still be filling
only word of caution on H2o mellon I've seen is in the Atkins For Life book where it is listed as an eat in moderation food, but so are all the other mellons.
I can't eat it and I'm a goalie but that is my all or none mentality I want a whole piece of it not just that little part of a slice that fits the 5 net grams rules
Just because watermelon doesn't appear on the "Power of 5" list, it doesn't mean it's not allowed on Rung 4.
Not all berries are listed either (take cranberries or blackberries, for example), yet they are all allowed on Rung 4.
Watermelon does appear under the power of 10 as a fruit grouped with fruits such as banana and apple in the pre maintenance chapter. I took it to mean that watermelon best belonged with those foods.
The new book says that melons are allowed on the berry rung but not water melon.
It does have a really high glycmic index. I cannot eat it either.

Power of 5 list...power of 10 list? I need to start memorizing the lists...
No - you can look them up in your DANDR
The power of 5 list (giving approximate portion sizes for 5 net carbs of various lower OWL rung foods) is towards the end of the OWL Chapter 14 and the power of 10 list (giving approximate portion sizes for 10 net carbs of rung 4 to rung 9 foods) is towards the end of the Premaintenance Chapter 16

Unfortunately, I borrowed the book from our library, I guess on payday I will look for this one on amazon and purchase my own copy. I'm only on chapter 3 so I have a long way to go before getting to all the information being shared, but when you have not finished the book, the information can be confusing.

Q. I am having a hard time understanding the percentages on OWL. In induction it was 65% fat, 5% carbs and 30% Protein. Now, if I understand correctly (I actually read the sticky on percentages and came out more confused than before reading it) I should keep my fat and protein constant at 50% fat and 30% protein increasing my carbs to 20%? That seems like a huge leap in carbs (which have been between 3-5%) can anybody help with this?
Thanks
