  • What is wrong with me???

    Seriously!! I have bought every Atkin book out there I have read them and I cant figure out how to count the carb grams! I am educated woman with a masters degree and I still cant figure out how much I can eat! I have only lost 3 pds in 2 weeks and this is ridiculous! I have not written anything down but I am eating protein

    Here is a sample of my meals

    Breakfast is 2 eggs cooked with butter and 2 oz of cheese
    Lunch cobb salad with ranch or blue cheese dressing
    Dinner chicken salad with 2Tbs of mayo and onion over lettuce.

    I am not losing anything and I am so discouraged. I started today writting things down but I cant figure out how many carbs are in each thing and how much can I eat???!!

    Try using fitday.com. Then take the number of carbs - fibre to get Net Carbs. Keep that number < 20 for induction.

        There are several websites where you can open an 'account' (free) and list all the food you eat and it will do the counting for you!!
        The one I use is at www.fitday.com and though it is a bit confusing to start with is fairly logical.

        Also the database from which all these websites get there info is here

        You can search for any food and see the numbers for any quantity.

          %) Ok after plugging everything in (where you write the items in) it says 1129 calories 92 grams of fat 8 carbs and 67 grams of protein

          On the bottom of the page where the chart is it says
          72% fat
          25% protein
          3% carbs

          What are the numbers supposed to be??

            There is not any supposed to. Atkins has no numbers in his book. He very wisely is trying to make us eat naturally listening to appetite and body. But this will take time to learn how to do I think.

            So the only number to really worry about on induction is 3- 3 cups of veggies.

            But all that being said if we are struggling numbers can be a bit of a help.

            Looking at your nubers the one that screams at me the loadest is the calorie one. You do not have your stats up (this is very helpful to have up when you are asking for troubleshooting) but that number is really low. Body is a stubborn organism and it tries to protect itself. If it gets too little food it slows down. So eating enough is very important.

            As far as those fat/protein/carb thing is concerned we aim for 65/30/5. But that is just ballpark suggestions. Mine are up and down - depending on the day. I don't worry about them at all.

            I think you eat to little protein and probably too little veggies. Just lettuce is not giving you enough nutritional substance. Body like nutrients. It will likely not give up fat if you starve it of both calories and nutrients.

            How many netcarbs did fitday tell you you had (that is carbs minus fiber). How many of these netcarbs come from veggies?
