  • SOOOOOO TIRED on Atkins

I keep reading how this diet gives you energy. Well since I've been on this diet I am EXTREMELY tired. I'm not trying to discourage people or even myself I just don't understand WHY I'm SO tired. Do I need more carbs for more energy? I eat the 20 or under carbs a day. I go the gym and do cardio and I'm EXHAUSTED while I do it and after. Today I did some weights and felt ALIVE again. First time in a LONG time. Has anyone else experienced this? Oh and I am in ketosis, just for the record.

    Here's my menu:

How long have you been on Atkins? Are you still on induction?

At first, it takes your body awhile to shift from a carb burning metabolism to a fat burning machine and you can experience fatigue while that transition occurs...

You said you feel more alive after your workout .. you mean less tired? Hopefully you are over the worst of it and will be feeling great from here on!

Your menu looks good to me.

I'm still doing induction. I've been doing this for 4 weeks now. I only lost 11 lbs. I thought I would have lost more by now too but I am hanging in there. I have not cheated AT ALL.

I did feel less tired while working out (but only today) but now I'm tired again. I'm just ALWAYS tired. I'm not used to that. I'm a VERY active outgoing person. I don't like this sluggish feeling I have ALL THE TIME.

Are you taking your supplements and drinking your water? That will help alot. What supplements are you taking?

        Keep up with the exercise!

11 pounds in 4 weeks is AWESOME! How much do you have to lose?

I am taking my supplements and drinking water. I'm doing EVERYTHING I'm supposed to do and that's why I don't understand why I feel SO sluggish.

I probably should lose 60 lbs.

If you are working out alot, I'd suggest increasing your protein a little. I know when I start to feel OUT OF IT, its usually cuz I'm not eating enough protein to support all the running I do. Can't hurt!

            Hang in there!

              11lbs!

11lbs lost is great for someone who needs to lose 60! You have lost almost 25% of the weight that you need to lose in 4 weeks :joy. Gyrl this is something to be happy about.

I can understand how the sluggish feeling could get you down. I also feel that you may be trying to base what you have lost on what others on the board have lost. You have to keep in mind that you normally lose 5%-10% of the weight that you want to lose while doing the inital induction phase, therefore you are doing wonderful so far!

The only thing you have to worry about now is that energy. I take Atkins Basic 3, and they are fairly cheap (walmart $7-$14).

Good luck and keep us posted :wave

I am NOT a doctor, but I did read in the book that sometimes folks have issues with yeast. Not sure if this could be part of your problem. I have had yeast problems and there have been times when it has caused my energy to be really low. Chapter 25 in my DANDR book discusses this. One of the symptons listed talks about low energy. Sounds like you are doing everything right, so maybe, just maybe, its somthing physical?? There is also a forum here that I have read some discussions on....

I ordered the vitamins to take for my yeast reactions from my vitamin internet site. With my issues, I am hoping they fix me right up.....

you are eating very very low ca from your fitday you are not even eating induction. Induction is about eating your veggies all 3 cups of them as a part of the foundation of healthy eating habits you are builkding so you can maintain your smaller healthier you for yrs to come. Dr Atkins said in DANDR he tells folk who feel tired or fatigued to eat more food. Try increasing your total cals by eating more veggies and more fats and proteins. your ration of fats to proteins loks very good but under 1000 cals a day is very low. the dangerous fat fast has more total cals then you are eating from your fit day totals.

                  Happy low carbing.

Can you give me some examples of what you mean by eating more fats and proteins. Like what? And I'm not sure I understand what you mean about being 1000 cals a day? I had 1774 total cals for the day.

I went back a week to see what you were eating since you posted on the 7th about being tired and of your last 5 entries here are 3 of them. you say today you are over 1700 today. they say you are under 1000 for the other days. When we look at a person's fitday we are looking at your eating pattern not one day. you need to be consistant yes some days you will not be hungry and others you will be you are very low and missing lots of those veggies required in induction.

Atkins is a high FAT diet, so if you eat lean proteins, like fish, poultry and some red meats, you need to add the fat back in. You can do this by using oil dressings on your salads/veggies, using butter on your veggies/meats, using mayonnaise, using high fat sauces like home made hollandaise or bearnaise sauces, etc.

actually accordiong to your fitday inputsd your ratios are fine. reread chapter 11 of your DANDR and look at all those veggies you can pick form for those 3 cups you need to be eating so you are not missing those vital nutriants in them.

you cna just eat slightly more of the healthy proteins and fats that you are eating on your 1700+ cal days on those days you are not eating enough.

You taking a good vit with minerals. Check your fitday under the reportsd and see if you are deficient in any of the RDAs for vits and minerals we can't see those pages on a public fitday.
