I have found that I do better when I drink more water. Of course, that doesn't mean that I always follow through. I agree it's tough to get in that much water in a day, but if you can pull it off, I think you will see the reward (assuming you are on plan in all other areas of the diet). However, there is a corollary to that -- I'm fairly certain that drinking 5 liters of water isn't going to help more than the 1.5, but I can guarantee I won't be testing that theory anytime soon!

The minimum is 64 oz, which is about 2 L.

Plus, it's not only about weight loss. It's also about being healthy and learning healthy habits.

And yes, many people report losing weight better when they drink more water.

I just noticed you are 16.

You should discuss your diet with your pediatrician and parents, and they are the ones who should advise you what's best for your health.

I don't think it makes me lose anymore weight but it helps me not retain any additional water weight. So the scale will move down as long as I am not retaining any additional water. I would drink atleast 100 oz daily. Not the 64 oz minimum. 64 oz is very inadequate for those on this WOL. 1.5 litres is not enough. I would drink am minimum of 3 litres which is 100 oz

Water also helps flush out the by-products of burning fat, as in when you are in ketosis. So naturally the more you drink, the more fat you can flush away!

I think so. I find that it helps me to feel flushed out, like the other poster(s) mentioned. Also, I tend to lose better when I drink more water.

I couldn't agree more, especially when you're at work! I also think drinking more helps, if with nothing more than making you feel full so you don't munch mindlessly!

                      Re: does water help greatly?

Yes, for me it makes a huge differance. When I drink a lot of water, at least three liters, I find I can lose as much as a half pound a day, and sometimes even more, but without the water, I lose that in a week instead. So, at least for me, water is crucial to losing the weight.
The good news is, you do get used to it. I hated drinking water and the fact that some days I drink four liters and most days three is a complete turn around for me. I still prefer flavored drinks and always have a diet rite next to me along with my liter bottle of water, on days I am not liking the water I drink some water and then take a sip of the diet rite and it really helps a lot , but I am okay with water and that is so huge for me, but it just takes time.
It is also so great for your skin as well. Better than any lotion or cream. Water every day will make your skin feel so much better.
It is differant for everyone, but for me, water makes a huge differance. in my weight loss.

Well, I drank a record 170 oz yesterday and the scale dropped from 137.00 to 135.20 overnight! WOW, I did not believe it so I weighed myself twice this morning.

So, I don't think it actually makes you lose weight but it aids in the process.

Even when I was a member the Torture Club known as Weight Watchers, they recommended upping your water intake if you seem to be stalling.

I wonder if any studies have been done, where calories/carbs are the same for 2 groups, but one drinks a significantly greater amount of water. I wonder if it can actually trigger weight loss.
Maybe it's all the extra exercise you get running to the bathroom...

I love it, "Toture Club"! I actually have heard a lot of people like WW! But I'd rather count carbs than points though.

I probably burn an additional 50 calories a day going back and forth to the bathroom. I should buy a pedometer and count how many additional steps I take going down the hall to the bathroom at work.

                              Re: does water help greatly?

Someone once told me that it is recommended people ingest 1oz of water for every 1 lb you weigh (this goes for water in foods too). I'm not sure how true that is though. I have never found anything scientific stating that.

You do have to be careful about depleting electrolytes, especially beings you are so young. If you deplete your electrolytes too much, it could cause all sorts of problems, includung death. I remember when I was in nursing school there was an incident where a girl was using Ecstasy (a drug) and her friends told her to drink lots of water to regulate her temperature and to keep her hydrated. They threw in that if she didn't stay hydrated she could die. So, she became paranoid and literally drank herself to death, depleting her electrolytes and causing a heart attack. You COULD also throw yourself into Congestive Heart Failure. While it is important to drink a lot of water, don't drown yourself in it. There is truth to "Too much of a good thing isn't always good".
