I began two weeks ago at 306, and I am soooo proud to say that I am now at 293!! That's 13 pounds down in two weeks. I plan to stay the course because I am worth it!

Re: End of 14-day Induction and...

I'm not sure how long I will extend induction, but since the books says I can extend it if I have a significant amount of weight to lose, I think I will do that.

            Any suggestions?

I am currently at 293 with a goal of 140.

Re: End of 14-day Induction and...

I don't believe that staying on Induction longer than 2 weeks does any real good. Most of one's weight should be lost on OWL.

I see more people fail by staying on Induction too long.

Moving to OWL is seldom a bad plan.

Staying on Induction too long can backfire ... since when you stall (and you will), you don't really have much to work with.

If you're committed to extending Induction, I would reevaluate every week.

Re: End of 14-day Induction and...

I think staying on induction is a personal decision but I know, for me, I was scared. I "only" lost 6 lbs on induction, which is much less than most people, and was scared that I wouldn't lose anything if I moved on. I realized this is a way of eating, a way of life... not just a "diet" to lose weight. The main goal should be for us all to be healthy and fit. Induction is so limited and OWL gives you a chance to incorporate more foods into your meals. Not all at first, of course, but gradually. I know, for me, I miss fruit soooo much and could feel myself ready to binge on some strawberries and pineapple. I didn't binge but I did have to sneak a few raspberries though. I LOVE fruit and had to have something. So... I decided to take that next step to rung 1. I can't wait to get to be able to enjoy a nice piece of Watermelon or a few strawberries.. YUM!!! Anyway, all I'm trying to say is we really have to think about what we want out of this. I think we all want the same thing... to be healthy. So, as far as you staying on extended induction, it is a personal decision and I would think if you are happy eating the way you are and aren't having any cravings, then go for it. But, if you are finding you are starting to get bored or are craving, I think that's your body telling you it's time to move on to the next step.

At 293 and trying to get all the way down to 140, I think it may benefit me to extend my induction. Also, the hunger curbing benefit of ketosis is great in induction.

I'm afraid that if I move to OWL any time soon, I'll be out of ketosis and hungry, hungry, hungry.

Congratulations on your loss! I started last week at 309lbs, and I don't intend to consider OWL until I either loose 100lbs or I get really board with the food. So I think we will have time to adjust to OWL before we reach goal, if we stay with induction for far longer than 14 days!

Just some "food for thought" ... you didn't "have to" ... you chose to, and it was a "want", not a "need".

Hopefully the boredom comes quickly for you! Your "plan" to lose 100 pounds on Induction isn't a sound one ... it's likely to be a path to failure.

You should read the stories from those who did what you're thinking about doing ... and then when they're doing Atkins for the <insert number of times here>, they vow not to repeat the mistake of staying on Induction too long.

Induction is about getting your body ready to lose weight. You do the losing on OWL.

woo hoo congrats on your great beinging and welcome to twoterville.

Enjoy your extended induction but do check something like fitday.com's nutrtional reports of you use that site so you can make sure you don't get deficeint in any vits or minerals. If you find you are you can move to rung one of OWl and add 5 more net grams of carbs of those yummy induction veggies to help solve that issue and then just stay there until you feel the need to add another rung.

Also keep asking yourself those questions in chapter 13 so you know when you need to move. I did 6 months extended induction until I answered yes to that question about wanting other foods.
