  • starting tomorrow!

My first day of Induction is tomorrow. Wish me luck! I'm actually sort of nervous!!

I'm a Software Engineer, so I whipped up a website I can use to track my foods, carbs, weight, daily thoughts, etc. I'm excited to actually use it!

I've used several sites/apps for dieting, and some are better than others.

This way, I can make it exactly how I want it

        That works.

I'm just not a big fan of reinventing the wheel!

I presume you're using the USDA database for your carb counts?

Before you start Atkins, you might want to do what I suggested recently in this thread:

                Re: starting tomorrow!

TM, I think your idea of knowing what your baseline was to start with is a good idea. But I doubt you were eating 10,000 calories a day, unless you weighed about 600 pounds.
I bet you can remember what a typical breakfast, lunch or dinner was, and snacks, and figure it out now.
I think the quick drop in weight at the beginning is highly motivating. If you only have, say 20 pounds to lose or less, then your idea of going staright to OWL might be a good one. Just one week of Induction, not 2.
However, I disagree with it being better for you, adjustment-wise. If you are walking around with 50 extra pounds, dropping, say, 12 of them in Induction can only help. If you were walking around with a 50-pound sack of dog food, wouldn't you rather relieve your heart and muscles and bones of that 12 pounds right away, instead of 1-2 pounds at a time? It might give you in addition to the psychological boost, motivation to get out an get some exercise.
When I weighed 232, I wanted to lose a few pounds before I got serious about exercise. My knees and hips hurt, and lightening their load would make it easier. When I had lost 15 pounds, I decided NOW was the time to get it all moving.

                    TM,

Thank you for your concern and advice. I have been alternately tracking calories and points (WW) for about two years -- maybe a bit more. I have a rough idea of how many calories I consumed, but that's about it. Carbs? I don't know; I personally don't really care how many I was eating before. I'm on my first day of Induction right now though, and one thing I am certain of was that I was eating WAY more than 20

And since I know I used to eat pasta probably 1-3 times per week, that's hundreds of grams of carbs right there. Add in the several ounces of potato chips (my vice; just gave away my last bag) I'd eat every day, and I'm sure it was hundreds per day.....

                    edit: "I consume" => "I consumed"

                      Re: starting tomorrow!

                      Thanks sham and liv

The first day is going very well so far. I made a huge (3 egg, 6oz of meat) omelet this morning, which made me nervous because it felt like so much more food than normal! It definitely filled me up through the entire morning tho. I had a small snack of cheese curds (not fried! just little chunks of cheddar), but couldn't eat very many.

One SNAFU was that I made 1/2C of onions with breakfast, instead of 2T (which is what I wanted to make -- I looked at the wrong row in the book), so that was a lot of carbs I didn't plan on having (6g).

Right now I'm at 21.95g net carbs (12.1g from foundation veggies). Eep! Can't eat any more carbs for the rest of the day. Oh well though, right? It's the first day -- it's a learning experience

                      Any tips/insights?

                      Thanks!

Are you counting total carbs or net carbs?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

                            >>Net; I started by counting total and fiber as well,>>

                            Net is total minus fiber.

That's what is counted on Atkins.

If you count total only, you'll be undereating.
