  • some advice please.

hi guys! this is only my 2nd post, i was wondering if any of you could offer some advice.

i'm on day 2 and am really struggling. i'm craving chocolate and fizzy juice so badly. i think it's sugar more than anything as i usually eat a lot of choc.

this morning i've had an ommelette with cheese and ham and a couple of glasses of water. i ended up having a cappucino too as i felt shakey. now a few hours later i feel hungry and shakey again where am i going wrong and what can i do? i don't think i'm going to last much longer being honest

    Re: some advice please.

Well, if you starve something it gets weaker. So feeding your sugar cravings are just keeping them alive. Next time when you feel like having a cappucino don't. Have some more eggs instead or something salty like pickles. How about 1 oz of cheeze or some meat. Veggies! Don't forget them. Drink a lot of water also. Commit 100% to only the acceptable food's list and you'll usually feel better by day 5. It's hard but the health consequences of yo'yo dieting are much worse. Good luck.

I'll be honest, my first week did suck a bit, and I did suffer craving sugar and caffine, but, I promise you, by week two you will feel SO much better, the cravings will die down, your appetite will reduce, and if you stick to it you will see the weight loss happen and it will make you feel SO good!

DO IT! It's about taking control!

thankyou so much! the actually don't like many vegetable so i don't know what i could snack on. i like having cheese with my meals so i don't want to over do the cheese.

i'm having lunch which is lettuce leaves with 2 slices of bacon with some melted cheese, it's yummy!

i feel a bit more positive after your encouragment, my friends and family aren't enthusiastic about this diet.

Sweetest things you can have on induction are: bell peppers and tomatoes. Take advantage of them, but count your carbs.

Don't worry I went through the exact same thing the first few days, I had to stay off college I felt so shakey with "atkins flu", but it does pass - honest Try drinking decaf black coffee with sweeteners or sugar free jello to kick the cravings, but only 3 sweeteners a day on induction
My family also aren't keen on me doing the diet so I feel your frustration there!

thankyou so much guys, knowing i can speak to people who have been through it reassuring.

what is in sweetners? i thought about trying decaff but can't drink black, unsweetned coffee. it might be a bit more bearable with sweetners though.

The sweeteners recommended in my Atkins book are sucralose based sweeteners like Splenda, they count as one carb each. I'm the same, I love sweet milky coffee normally but with sweeteners I find I can deal with black coffee - it's better than nothing

I have a confession to make... I haven't given up all caffeine yet..... I haven't been able to kick the morning caffeine .... I HAVE bought 1/2 caf coffee... and have a splash of heavy cream in it....

I'm pretty sure I'd be losing faster if I gave it up... but right now.... I haven't .....

Not necessarily a bad thing, as research has shown that small amounts of caffeine can actually kick start your metabolism and help weightloss (New Atkins by Drs Westman, Phinney & Volek) Apparently anyway...

i'm sure the idea is that caffeine can suppress your appetite. i just love milky, sugary coffee

I knoww I was at Starbucks the other day with my boyfriend and it was nightmarish watching him with his caramel macchiato while I sat sulking with my black coffee - but we can get through it!

That seems a bit light for lunch. Make sure you are eating enough at each meal. And getting enough fat and protein and your veggies in. It could be your cravings are hunger in disguise because you're not eating enough.

Also, food triggers can cause cravings, including "feeding the beast" by overdoing sweeteners, drinking soda and/or having too much caffeine. I found by avoiding sugar-free jello and other such treats I really beat my craving beast into submission.

I also recommend visiting Linda's Low carb site for some great recipes including veggies. I didn't think I liked many vegetables either, but have found that it all depends on how you cook them. I've learned to cook and love so many more veggies on Atkins and my tastes have changed that I do like them much better now.

Also post your menu for review. Folks here can make sure you're eating right and offer some pointers. I found this really helped me get rid of my triggers and fine tune what I'm eating for maximum nutrients, correct balance of fat/protein/carbs, reducing cravings and better weight loss.
