  • Advice please! What to do after a mini binge?

    Hey guys,
I was doing really well up til now, went from 154 to 148 over induction and have just started OWL adding in nuts, but over the past week I haven't lost any weight when my eating habits have hardly changed at all, and after a week of looking at my easter egg in desperation I ate some of it.
What is best to do now? Go back to induction to kick start ketosis or what?
At least now I no longer crave chocolate as it just made me feel ill after the weeks without sugar!
    Thanks

nuts aren't until rung 3... I think that might be the problem... (with not losing)... I'd suggest just cut out the nuts.... and eat more veggies from the induction list.. you don't have far to go... you'll get there..

Thanks I chose nuts because the book I have is new Atkins where it says you can try nuts or berries first depending on what you think would help, and as I haven't got that much to lose I thought I could be more flexible.. but obviously not!
Thanks for the advice I'll cut out the nuts

.... the DANDR 2002 puts them later.... and even then... for some reason... some people find that nuts... and berries cause stalls... for others they don't...

I guess it's ok to try and SEE if it works for you... but if it's slowing things down... I guess it's best to drop them... for now..

Sounds like a plan to me What about the small easter egg mishap - will that make a big difference or should I just pretend it didn't happen?

Re: Advice please! What to do after a mini binge?

eh.... it all depends on your body.. and how it reacts to it... it's over now... water under the bridge.. I would just continue on the plan... and not look back... I don't think it's necessary to start all over...

as for ketosis... the sticks don't turn for me at all this time (they always did in the past).. and I think that even though I know I'm eating the right way... I am now on synthroid... since I no longer have a thyroid... and I think that medicine just does not allow the sticks to turn..

so... I would not worry about the ketosis 'damage'... from one bite of easter candy....

but that's just MY advice... I'm not the pro... but that seems to be the major advice from what I read... just try not to let it happen again.. and move on... don't move back..

Also, try and figure out what caused you to "binge" and make plans to keep it from happening again.

If you were feeling down because you weren't losing weight, realize that you might not always lose weight every week. I think this is the hardest part of losing weight. We want the weight to come off quickly and when it doesn't, we get frustrated and it makes it easier to tell ourselves it's okay to cheat.

Also, one week of not losing weight is not a stall. Dr. Atkins defines a stall as 4 weeks of no weight or inches lost and then offers suggestions on what to do when that happens. It's also common to "stall" right after Induction.

Have you been measuring? You also may be losing inches.
              Start date: 2/22/04 347/222/135 ~ 5'2"
              STAC Restart: 1/05/09
              306/229/135 ~ 5'2" 77 lbs down!

              Goal #1: 247 - 2nd 10% (59lbs, 247, also 100 lbs total loss) - Met 1/4/10!!!
              Goal #2: 241 - Halfway to goal! (106 lbs lost) - Met 2/21/10!!!

              Goal #3: 222 - 3rd 10% - Lowest Atkins weight
              Goal #4: 210 - Still on track!
              Goal #5: 200/199 - 4th 10% - One-derland! End year goal!
Female/Hypothyroidism/Arthritis/Fibromyalgia - If I can lose weight on this, so can you!

No one mentioned that the absolute first thing you should do is......throw away the rest of the easter egg.

Thanks that was really helpful, I feel much better now I'm pretty sure it was just that easter egg specifically I was craving as no other chocolate has bothered me, and I've thrown the rest of it out so it can't haunt me anymore! Also I felt pretty ill after having some so hopefully that'll put me off to be on the safe side I'm going to cut out sweetners to see if that reduces my cravings

Re: Advice please! What to do after a mini binge?

Keep your water intake high. I always give the advice of atleast 100 oz a day. I personally shoot for 150 oz and I think that helps me greatly.

You should be eating up to an additional 5 grams of veggies on OWL 1.

You don't have a lot left to lose. Please be aware that your weight loss may slow dramatically. You and I have close to the same stats and I am now only losing 3 lbs a month compared to the 5 lbs I lost on induction.

My advice, stick to OWL 1 as long as possible. More than the week Dr. Atkins calls for. That will give you a good foundation on how to eat and to make sure you get enough veggies. I didn't do that and I regret it. I have actually reverted to OWL 1 again because eating the appropriate amount of veggies is most important to me.
